I thought I would post some pictures. My local forum the PNWMAS based Oregon/Washington area has this awesome program through fund raising and donations we supply schools with free tanks and equipment. The high school student who was helping with his school last year graduated and I got this desperate call 2 weeks ago that the tank wasn't ready and needed lights, the skimmer going and the overflow going. With some last minute scrambling we were able to get it up. I thought I would share so hopefully it will inspire other clubs to consider a program like this. The tank was donated by a member of the forum who was getting out of the hobby.

Here are some pictures of the curriculum for the Earth Science Class. I also love that you get extra credit if you don't use the bathroom passes! Who knew that having a large bladder was the key to a good grade?

The canopy was built again by handy friend Matt. They had wanted it to be a tall stand because initially they were going to install 250W MHS and wanted the lights up a bit because of the heat. Another reefer went over last week and drilled the holes in the canopy for the overflow to fit!

After a plea by me on my local forum, Reefstar LED gave us a smoking deal on these latest and greatest LEDS! He also went over them and installed them and programmed them! They are amazing and look great! This will also save on electricity for the school, will help with heat concerns, and I won't have to worry about replacing bulbs!

The teacher started writing a list of things the students should test for in the tank:

I can't wait to see how it comes together over the school year. The kids are really excited and there are so many things you can learn having an aquarium in the school.

That's so great! Good luck. The kids will love it. I'm proud for you.

Great job!! We also do something like this threw my local reef club Keep up the good work

Thanks! I'm happy to hear about other clubs doing this! Would love to see some oictures.

Would love to spin something off like this in our area. Atta' Club! ;)

That's great. That's what I'm hoping by starting off this thread. Here's a picture of another tank in the program. It's a special needs school and the faculty and staff love it. It's nice to be able to provide something that they could not otherwise afford.
This is when we first set it up in January of 2011

Teacher Rod admiring the new tank! He says the kids keep asking about their new tank! This will be a great learning opportunity for them about patience! Let the cycling process begin!

I hope other local clubs can set up something like this too! The teachers and children are always so excited. Without this program they wouldn't be able to have this!

ive been wanting to set up a program like this in my area for a while. i have plenty of tanks but lack alot of the equipment to do this

That is awesome!! I'm sure the kids will learn a lot.

I get donations from local reefers. The LFS are also helpful in donations and we do fundraisers from time to time to pay for equipment. This could not be done without the generosity of so many and I'm always impressed with how willing people are willing to help.
