i thought Occulus imported the tdf as a wholesaler and sold it as OA Fire Garden.thats one of their former salespersons told me.WT bought it and named it TDF.makes sense as the WT stock pic is on one of OAs signature square plugs with offset post[i know thats not exclusive lol]
he got his terria del fuego from the same place Dan got his? Dan imported it from Australia in
2010 Dan's the one who came up with the name terria del fuego it did not exist before then and wouldn't exist if it wasn't for him
Bing go! That sound about righti thought Occulus imported the tdf as a wholesaler and sold it as OA Fire Garden.thats one of their former salespersons told me.WT bought it and named it TDF.makes sense as the WT stock pic is on one of OAs signature square plugs with offset post[i know thats not exclusive lol]
Originally the TDF came from a few different vendors that all bought it from occulus... As you can see all the original colonies that the wholesalers got were all from the original occulus square plugs... Everybody kind of release there's at the same time and I'm pretty sure that the original name TDF came from wet thumbs.. I then told Gadgets from WWC about the name that thumbs was calling it and they dubbed it the same name... WWC posted up two mini colony size pieces like the first one shown and I bought one of the two... From what I understand they kept a few more to sell on their shop and another one to put in their display... I unfortunately had a delay in my shipment because of a broken airplane and when I received mine it was almost dead... I think something similar happened to the other person that bought it from WWC... It took them a little while to replace my piece because of the limited amount of supply and of course I didn't receive a mini colony because they just didn't have any that size left (Chris and victor made sure I was we'll taken care of to replace the size difference)... From what I remember the one I originally received looked alot like the one posted in the OP (I could definitely tell but Coral structure was the same but the color was not)… The one I received as a replacement later looked like it had changed a lot as it was in a tank and look a lot like windy city's as it matured.. I hear a lot of people saying that it looks a lot like the red planet but if you have seen it in person you would easily realize that it doesn't look anything like the red planet nor does it grow anything like the red planet... One of my favorite things about that stick is actually the growth structure and how it grow so thick and stubby usually.. Just like any other green and pink stick out there I think the placement and light has a lot to do with the color... I know there was a lot of vendors that originally received this piece around the same time and that might be the reason for so much confusion... And remember a lot of the vendors order from the same wholesalers and they are not all on Reef2reef so a ton of other stores might have gotten it around the same time as well... It is definitely a collectors piece and one I would like to have back in my collection for sure!
.

Anyway we all now acros, and other corals will react differently in different peoples tanks so just because it doesn't look like the jacked up photo you see in the first post doesn't always mean its not the real deal, it may not be but lets not kid ourselves-The TDF does not look like that first photo, there is not an acro on earth that has ......
So does Mike sell the real deal....................:smokin:

This is an unedited pic from my Iphone
I was taking a bunch of pics so that I could pick out the best one (as that's how I usually shoot). I happened to notice that two were just a few degrees apart and gave a 3D effect when I bounced them back and forth with Preview. So, I layered them together with Photoshop and made an animated gif. That is really cool, how did you do that 3d effect?
good example of real tdf
I think yours just might be growing a little bit different in your tank….I see similar characteristics in the Coralite structure….How it goes thick and stubby at the tip and has that pastel-ish pink hue... As you stated that this is not the only Coral that has done that for you… I have a buddy Steve who has a huge tank and everything grows completely different in his tank… they almost looks like it comes from the wild out of his tank...it's crazy!I was recently asked about whether my TDF was the real deal by Reefer831 to which all I could reply is that its a real of a deal as one would expect when buying a coral that was called the TDF from Mike over at Sexy Corals and he told me it was the real deal. So I would suspect anyone buying something from a place like WWC, Unique, Cherry, Sexy etc that you hope you are buying what they are saying they are selling.
Now if its coming from a private party unless they are going to give you the chain of where it came from (which I can on every acro I won -, Im such a name pig) and you know those people (which is not hard being this is a much smaller world when it comes to lineage stuff than a person might realize) who knows, its up to the individual to determine the level of trust.
I know for certain that acros in my tank do odd things, (in a positive way) I've heard it from nearly anyone who buys/trades with me. I was just showing Jared at RMF a few acros he traded to me and my Tubs Pink Jade for instance-doesn't even look the same and I still have the original pic of the frag I got.
Anyway we all now acros, and other corals will react differently in different peoples tanks so just because it doesn't look like the jacked up photo you see in the first post doesn't always mean its not the real deal, it may not be but lets not kid ourselves-The TDF does not look like that first photo, there is not an acro on earth that has
FWIW, here is my ORA Red Planet-
Here is my TDF-
The only time I get any hint of green from either is when they are on my sand bed after fragging :xd:
