Most hobby level tds meters top out at 9990.

Mine has never even been close to that as well. About 600 is the highest I've had it.

actually don't know. Just got a meter from china for $2.49. If it works I want to check out di water from aquarium shop on tds of my planted fw tank.

your tank TDS will be off the chart!!!! as others have said due to the salt.

The target TDS for your RODI should be 0. I know many reefers change it out at 1 but others will go as high as 5.

LFS sells 'RODI' water and I needed some in a pinch. Got home and tested it with my TDS meter, it was around 200 TDS!!! A few months later went back with meter in hand, right out of the RODI unit it was around 35 TDS, and this was after they 'just' changed the membranes. I imagine most of the people buying from them have no idea. Even after discovering this they said they will change membrane in 90 days. Some people just have a much higher TDS level before they start doing anything about it.

Dang that's a good idea if your getting it from store. I never thought about doing that back when I got it from store.

Yeah I go to 5 when I change mine.

You can not read TDS for salt water. Try this, check your TDS of your RODI container, zero? OK, now add a few drops from your tank. Your TDS meter will be all over the place. I have numerous TDS meters and they all react the same.

Testing the TDS in my ATO purified water reserve tank (a 55gallon food grade drum) reads about 43 ppm (there was a small amount of salt water which did backfeed into the ATO tank at one point) - after my 5 stage RO/DI. While straight from the tap, my city water reads about 148 ppm. My tank reads about 3,466 ppm at 1.026 salt levels.
