I'm still struggling to keep the temp up in the tank. I have 2 200 watt heaters and 60 g. Tank. I can maintain it at 72 degrees. But would be a little comfortable if it's a little higher. I don't have the filters going at this time since I'm trying to go through cycling the tank. Any suggestions.

What heaters are you using and are they adjustable?

Are you running them on a controller or just by the thermometer in the heater? Check to make sure they are actually functioning. I would think that would be plenty to get it to 78 easily. Is the tank in a cold room? This can impact things too.

2 aqueon heaters 200 watt adjustable.
Some heaters are miscalibrated from the factory. When it's set to 78 it may only heat the tank to 72. Try turning them up a couple degrees, and look into a digital temperature sensor as those liquid ones are not very reliable.

Agreed, 400 watts is more than enough to heat 60 gallons. Either the temperature gauge is not reading correctly or the heaters are miscalibrated.

its is in the basement. I did check it is putting out heat. I'm thinking the cause is that it is cold down here. I might need to get a 3rd heater until spring weather and summer arrive. plus for winter also.

I'd turn up the heat on the two you have. Even with a cold room 400 watts should be more than enough.

I have 2 sticker temp gadges and two of those thermometers like I posted in the pics above. maybe I should get a digital thermometer and see what I get with that.

I just cranked the 2 heater up all the way. so i'll see what that gets me. it looks like 1 is working then when that turns off the 2nd heater turns on. I have 1 at each end of the tank.

its in the 50's today and that's not gonna last long. by friday back in the 20's and possible wintery mix all weekend. so im thinkg possibly a third heater temporarily.

I used to have a 150 gal tank an a 55 gal sump in a basement and only used a 250 watt heater. My basement always stayed the same temperture about 62 degs. I would say you have more than enough heater if they are working correctly.

The best part of a temp controller is in the event the heater fails in the on position the controller will turn it off and when the temp drops to below the set temp it will turn it back on. Nobody would be the wiser that their heater has failed. I stopped using glass heaters after seeing some of the aftermath of a heater explosion. Just my $.02
