They know what they're doing with this promotion.

Not good. Maybe they should advertise as the decor of Dory, not the actual fish.

It might not be as bad as it looks. Since the text is in German, I can't read it, but it looks to me like this is a freshwater starter package that simply comes with a Dory theme. Liveaquaria put together a list of easy to keep freshwater fish that have similar characteristics to clownfish and hippo tangs. This tank might be more meant to house those freshwater species.

Yeah that's no good. Just gotta hope that for the majority of LFS and people working there know enough to dissuade parents from buying this to house their very own"Dory"...

I see your point! But can you imagine the confusion it could cause and I would think that many people buying it will be under the impression that they can have a "Dory."

It's not saying to put Dory in there... but the power of suggestion. We worked so hard to separate the two. A manufacturer such as Tetra needs to promote good things, not be a little sneaky and misleading. Nothing makes it a freshwater tank besides the food. It's perfectly viable for a saltwater setup.

Agreed. Hopefully there is a disclaimer of some sort at least. But as a marketing and sales guy, I unfortunately tend to believe that the mfg knows what assumptions will be made by some consumers...

I think this is a great idea! It placates kids that scream at their parents "I want a Dory!!!" To me I see this as an opportunity for parents to see a cheap and easy way to provide what their kid wants in a safer manner than an actual fish.

I tend to agree with this. My parents took care of a small aquarium in my bedroom when I was a child and I was always more interested in the décor than the actual fish. The treasure chest and shipwreck connected to an air pump were my favorite parts of the tank. I would have loved to have something from my favorite movie in the tank. I eventually grew to love the fish and fell in love with the hobby. I think there should be a big and bold disclaimer somewhere in the packaging, but I think a lot of kids would love this even with a few neon tetras in the tank with the plastic Dory.

its not saying put a regal tang in this tank .. its just using the movie to sell tanks. no worse then another company trying to make money
