On the xda developers forum they have the ability to "thank" a post if it is found to be useful by some one. It kind of gives an ability to see if someone knows what they're talking about and it also eliminates "+1" posts. In fact they don't even allow "+1" because it clutters a thread. I'm pretty sure they use the same software because as u can see in my shots it works with tapatalk.

In this shot you can see the thanks on the post.

In this one you can see how many times I've been thanked on how many posts.

I think this should be a nice feature up have for both reference and uncluttering threads.

We have the option but I am afraid people will not be as personable about things they like. We may try it again at some point soon. ;)

Just thought I'd add some input to this if that's ok, because I was thinking of the same thing (well, a "Like" feature, not thanks but same thing). I think rather than discourage people to get involved it might help people to get involved. A lot of times I read or see something on the forums (lurking) that's useful, interesting, funny, etc., but I'm not going to bother posting that I liked it all the time. However, I would "Like" a post or "Thanks" a post pretty often just because it's simple and you don't have to type out "Cool post" or something like that.

Anyway, just thought I'd say:

+1 on this ;)

Rev, you can set up the thanks so it just shoots a PM to the person they're thanking, but doesn't display anywhere else. Doesn't really address the '+1' issue, but is a nice way to let people know that their post is appreciated. Also no real issues with abuse, since it's not a public feedback system.
