Had a quick gander at your lovely tank, what are you trying to achieve?

From memory, phyto (or some types anyway) can grow in low light using organics, but only 60% of the normal growth rate. Add light and it may make sense that growth is increased. A bit like photosynthesis using both red and deep red spectrums is greater than using either red or deep red then adding them together.

Do you know if too much light intensity will diminish photosynthesis. @Dana Riddle articles in Advanced Aquaria documented it with SPS that coral growth platoed out then declined with increasing intensity.

As a Laissez faire reefer, I achieved low maintenance using micro fauna and fana, along with bacteria and cryptic sponges to run near zero water change systems.

My goal is to maximize filter feeders with minimum work on my part. I don’t consider reef maintenance or research as work, it’s fun & rewarding for me to know “why it works” and then, make it happen by following thru with details.

I saw it there but I was worried about it and not being available going forward with this test since it is being marked as discontinued at most places. I went ahead and ordered as well so I'm back on board

The website was a disorganized bunch of pictures and tweets, yet his use of reef rubble intrigued me and I used it in a wet/dry filter in front off mud/algae refugium.

No, never did it. It seems to be a temporary fix to overcome incorrect/ insufficient husbandry of system. However, with a nano tank, RIP clean would be easy enough.

Yes a couple times but used water polishing and water changes with a commercial aquarium maintenance system I own. In a recent clean of my orphan tank the result is an outbreak of Cyano bacteria and nuisance algae. So this is a perfect chance to try this method. Just fish and inverts only at this point. Trying to get the rock ready to move to new aquarium and make a go with some sps corals. Not enough filter feeders at present so this might not work. I need to add some sponge and filter feeders maybe to get this kicked off. Ordered Actif and the fun begins. I did use Vibrant a while back and it worked but at a cost. Did not know it was an algaecide. So I am not prone to bottled whatever but this may help to correct the situation.

This is where I get ornamental sponges. Winter diving is inconsistent and they have zero in sock now, yet two weeks ago I received three pack of ornamental sponges.
