I think when they first hit the market they ran close to 15k. They had a lot of issues at start which Tesla later went back and upgraded all first time buyers. It was a pretty sweet deal actually because they also got a increase in storage capacity. But yes, they are pricy.
Here is the deal because the media loves electric cars. You charge at home or work or school or somewhere. Power is still being mostly generated by not so green processes. Especially most of us average Joe home owners. And even if we have solar, and I do for example, I do not produce enough positive energy to charge my electric vehicle....
Wheel goes around and around and around. It isn't paradise but what we have I guess.
