What do you suppose is the most trendy thing people have in their tank these days, that would mean you have one yourself i presume and how do you fair, with it. And why do you think is that happeneing you think, why is it so popular, just wondering. Sorry i didn't go into specific brand , because thats wasn't not my intent, it was more into what type of tanks people are going for. But feel free to say what's your favorites though, its good info for everyone.

Some may ask why i post those choices; good question. I've put those according to most of the site (7) i've visited this year and came across thread dealing with these exact topics for a number of months, and are still active; Its called a sampling if you must know. If a conversation continues for more than 6 months it becomes relevant.

Thanks for your time.

I think right now it is a mix of too many things, and rimless, not saying that either or both are a bad thing, but they seem to be on the uprise. I think designer clowns have been around long enough to be part of the norm, and not so much of a trend right now.

I think Tangs are "trendy" because everyone wants them even though they shouldn't. A lot of species get brought into the hobby that shouldn't be. The most popular miskept fish in my opinion because everybody wants one in their tank and find any excuse to get them. Its relevant as well because there is always the debates about them. So that is my vote.

I voted rimless because that really does seem to be a current trend in tank selection.

Overpriced LED systems with different modes. Sorry, but I don't really care to have my tank lit up like a disco in the 70's.

I voted barebottom and to many gizmos. I don't understand why one needs 50 gizmos under their tank when you don't need it but go ahead waste all that money.

I voted too many gadgets. I have seen the increase in turning their cabinet or fish room into a science lab. Though some of those setups are amazing to look at and the plumbing of it all is impressive, it does seem a bit superfluous. Then again, I am no expert

Id have to say designer sumps. I remember back when...when your sump was not a focal point, it just hid all the equipment and was a place to store stuff. Now your seeing some sumps that are as much as some of the display tanks themselves. On the bright side I like the trend. For one being organized makes reefing a little bit easier and a little bit more enjoyable. These sumps on the market now are making it easier for reefers to stay organized and more efficient with adjustable skimmer walls, cord and tubing holders. Hooks mounted on the baffles for submersible heaters to stay and a clean look to go along with the display. I notice the trend of the whole package of the "reef aquarium" being a display not just the display aquarium its self. These sumps by no means are means to have a successful and beautiful reef but it is a trend I do say I see happening here lately.

I voted for too many gadgets tanks. I understand the whole science lab feeling when trying to better my tank but I normally do that with copepod cultures that are still on the cheap side. Skimmers, sumps and all different types of gizmos are a little too much for taste and expensive. But then again I'm must a poor graduate student...

Wait what? DSB is a trend? Hmmm...they have been around for 15 years I know and don't seem to be going anywhere.

The biggest trend you failed to list! Its the designer tank trend. Ya know designer clowns filled with designer corals that are way over priced. I guess most of those could fall into the gadgets tank cause seems that "type" of reefer always has to have the newest coolest everything.

You should have a name brand trend (ecotec tunze apex etc) and a ghetto trend (jaebo oydssea etc).

Agreed. I don't want to pay an extra $500 for the whites to flash on and off really brightly. Lightning storms in a reef tank? That's just ridiculous.

Ridiculous?? How else are you going to find out if your fish have epilepsy?? lol

THE RETURN..... as you obviously missed it. Its been discussed for quite a while to my surprise and for a great deal of time now some are going back to an old concept thats as one put it once should be fenced and burned lol.

Its funny but the LED lights are THE most popular choice of all in all the site now, maybe i should of put in the selection but since it was so broadly used and mainstream, and its a specific product not a style of tank as i was going for the most part. Anyway on that subject it is quite the reason ièd chose my maxspect Razors no frills, no disco unnecessary gadjet that corals don't need to grow and that results in a heavy pricing at the end. Its basically an ego trip by the buyer. My Razors are doing the job very well and ajusting them is easy and the price was right. My 2 cent on the subject.

rise of the nano!!

More and more office people even if they have big system at home like to take a piece of nature with them and have a nano on their desk according to office people its a fad or a trend? Who knows. If you read the OP thats on how i chose the choices......

Their even a story about a guy who likes is fish so much he has a portable nano build specially for his favorite fish and brings him everywhere he goes, even relies on him for the stock market, now thats brings a new meaning to the market TANKED!! LOL.
