The problem for me with quarantine is that I get super attached to the fish during this process, but there is no guarantee they will make it in the DT and when they don’t it is extra disappointing. Last fish I QTed was doing great in QT and 48 hours after being in the DT disappeared without a trace overnight. I assume he became someone’s meal. I have 2 fish in QT currently and am already dreading the process of adding them to the DT and the stress that will put on my existing community and the new guys. Some might say I should have just not gotten them and sometimes I might even agree. Oh the hardship of loving fish :P

When you add them to DT, keep them in an 'acclimation box' to make sure they are in no danger from other fish in DT
I tried that with the last fish actually but ended up letting him out because he kept ramming himself into the sides of the acclimation box and wouldn’t calm down. I didn’t do him any favors letting him out though either so perhaps I should have left him tire himself out and kept him in there

Royal Gramma added in with melanarus wrasse, coral beauty, clown goby, prawn goby, Midas blenny, ocellaris clown pair, and a chromis pair. No signs of bullying prior. Gramma was holding its own and defending its little den first day in. I really have no clue what happened.

What was the fish and what is your current stock list?

You really shouldn’t be losing a fish to predation right after addition unless the compatibility is way off
Also I’m not convinced it was predation. I just believe that something(s) ate it after passing and that is why I haven’t found any trace of a body.

Could be still in tank hiding in rocks, or dead in rocks. Give it a coupla days

What fish in qt?
What fish in display?

Just realized this is a new comment. I have a melanarus wrasse, coral beauty, Midas blenny, clown goby, prawn goby, pair of ocellaris clowns, and a pair of chromis in the DT. I have another royal gramma and a bristletooth tang in qt. They just began QT on Saturday so it will be a long time before I introduce them. My plan is to introduce the royal gramma and let him get settled in for a while and then introduce the tang

Would introduce both new fish at same time. Royal gamma beautiful but can be mean, especially with like sized and shaped fish

What was new fish that disappeared ?

Royal gramma

I didn’t realize I should do both at the same time. Figured the tang would cause more trouble potentially

My thinking is that when you put more than one in ata time , all the established fish that may show aggression will have more than one concern, therefore it gets spread out

Both new fish shouldn’t be a problem until they get established. It’s the fish that’r In tank already that’s likely to cause issues, if any

Good point!! I hadn’t thought of it this way

You are still giving them a better chance of making it when moved.into the more competitive DT. Also u are protecting fish uve had sonce longer time in QT and which theoretically ud be more attached to.
