The problem with QT...

You are still giving them a better chance of making it when moved.into the more competitive DT. Also u are protecting fish uve had sonce longer time in QT and which theoretically ud be more attached to.

Oh yeah. Absolutely. I didn’t mean that it wasn’t worth it in the long run, just that it makes losing a fish more difficult for me. I’m happy to do it though as it should mean less loss overall.

Its always good to see reefers getting attached to their fish abd feeling bad when they lose one. Its a good thing that oushes u to study ur additions better abd take all necessary precautions when adding one.

The thing about QT that often goes unappreciated is in getting a new fish eating and back to a healthy weight. Improves the chances of a successful display transition immeasurably.

Not unappreciated by me. Sometimes a lil time of calm is just and only what’s needed

I tried that with the last fish actually but ended up letting him out because he kept ramming himself into the sides of the acclimation box and wouldn’t calm down. I didn’t do him any favors letting him out though either so perhaps I should have left him tire himself out and kept him in there

Depending on the type of fish, you might try putting some cover/shelter in the acclimation box so it doesn't feel exposed. If it can hide for a period of time, it will get more comfortable with its new surroundings and eventually come out. This has worked for me in the past.

Another few things that can help is place mirrors around the tank so fish think there’s another fish, same color, same size, keeps them occupied. And moving rocks around right before release
