Anemones are probably my favorite reef critter, so I decided to setup a tank dedicated to them!
First things first lets start with the equipment:
IM Fusion 40 AIO tank and stock return pump
24" ATI powermodule Hybrid
MP40wes
Eheim Jager 150W Heater
Equipment I still need to buy
Tunze ATO
Apex/Apex Jr
Long version: As I said above, nems are cool. Particularly bubble tip anemones and rock flowers (for now lol)
I had an opportunity to buy a bunch of rose anemones and black widow anemone's a few months back, but lost most of them over the thanksgiving holidays as a fish died in the tank with no clean up crew so just sat and rotted while I was gone. I have since picked up a few more widows, and had a few split, so i am now up to about 14 Widows and 5 Rose nems in a 20 long.. Decided if i was gonna make a go at growing these things out I should have a proper setup!
The long term goal for the tank will be to suffice as a second display tank but primarily bubble tipped anemones. I am hoping to propagate, frag and grow out the Widows for a while and eventually get into the more exotic bubble tips like Sunbursts and supernovas.
Livestock will be mostly anemones, as it will be difficult to keep coral in a tank full of critters that move around and stick everything they touch. Fish stocking will be very light. I have 2 small clowns that will go in there, might pick up a couple other small fish but dont want to exceed a total of 5 fish in the tank as filtration will be minimal.
Havent decided on sand or not yet, but I will likely try to find some tonga rock for this tank as it is easy to remove anemones from.
Filtration will be limited to a bag of carbon in the back chambers, and water changes. Fish load will be light, feeding will be light and anemones dont care much about nitrates/phosphates (assuming its not sky high of 60+) so keep it simple is the goal.
