The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Other day I was in the tank and freaked out the fish cleaning. Next day I come home to very edgy wrasse and one missing. Always the one that’s most important. Found a top off where he splashes and goes in a mushroom box hunting. Box is at surface so you have to jump. No body found but two dogs

You got some nice fish

My, Mrs. Cheap, fish today. Eating really well. Pellets food already. (26.99 at Petco)
Don't laugh but My Petco (Petco in Corpus Christi anyway, I certainly don't own it) has an excellent fish department with healthy, non medicated fish that are well fed while holding there. Sensibly divided and not overcrowded, with reasonable price.

Can’t beat $30 for a nice fish.

Petco stores that have fish managers that care about salt water can be really nice. I used to go to one that a family friend was the manager, and they get all their fish from quality marine. So same source at most places!

You have saved a lot of nems and fish that weren’t well from your petco over the years?
You definitely give your tanks life a good home

If it’s UNWD there is nothing you can do but fish can survive and do well with some spinal injuries. I currently have a fairy with a crooked spine and it’s still fat and pretty.

What kind of signs would I be looking for? It’s currently in an acclimation box so it’s not getting pushed around by the current as much but it’s been ignoring the brine that I placed

I don’t want to hit the panic button just yet but the pintail that was introduced yesterday is yet to be seen since early yesterday afternoon. Hoping he’s being skiddish in the rock work somewhere.

Does anyone have a video or can tell me the swim pattern for a naoki wrasse?? My lfs has one I might reserve but to me they swim weird and I don’t know if it’s normal

Fingers crossed. Watch if you have other wrasse. They don’t always have to chase or bite to stress a new addition. Them hovering or just their vibes will cause stress.
crabby48 - I’ve never seen this wrasse before.

Yes it is a male Viviens from Madagascar. Females look very similar

I have not gotten a wrasse for a tank ever because I didn’t want a top. But I broke down and ordered a nice lid and fell in love with a Splended pintail at the store today. Is this wrasse good for a 48x24 reef tank? I’m open to suggestions as I have not researched much on Wrasses yet. Expert help please!!!

Great wrasse and one of the more laid back. If you think you’ll want more it’s good to add them at once or close as possible.

Deteriorating swimming ability. Attempts to eat but inability to get the food.

I appreciate it. Have t seen any chasing at all (yet to see the pintail) but I haven’t seen a difference in activity in the other resident wrasses to say they are hovering over the new addition. I’m sure the pintail is in hiding as I have yet to see a body anywhere.

Saw this at LFS today. T Lunare?
