The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Also, does anyone know if the femininus has been figured out yet? Last I saw they were still withering away anywhere from after a week to just under a month.

Did you win some sort of lottery that we don't know about?

I wish! I’m just intrigued as I’ve not seen them in ages yet now they’re resurfacing again.

I am however looking at a C. beauperryi and a C. brunneus

I loved my brunneus. Still can't believe it jumped out. Holding off on any more wrasses until I get the lid situation fixed--apparently the stock IM screen lid isn't safe enough.

The Beau’ aren’t suppose to be that aggressive, but I had to remove mine to another tank because it would relentlessly try to attack my Rhomboid and Lineatus when I added them even after 4 days with them in boxes…The problem was the Beau’s was already established. Just bad timing when they became available. I wanted to add them all together. It was fine with my Brunneus I think because the Brunneus is a lot smaller as opposed to the Rhomboid and Lineatus which are all about the same size.

Sorry about the adornatus :crying-face:

That's my big debate right now. Polycarbonate lid or another mesh lid with even smaller holes. Want to get the lid sorted before any more wrasses.
I have had good luck so far with the redsea DIY meshlid. I have had these little dudes smash into it. No issues, its like a trampoline. The key is a snug fit. The holes are very small. Not even a pencil could fit.
I had a poly lid on my other tank and i would occasionally hear the BANG of a rubylongfin knocking himself silly. I could hear it in the next room. Ouch.

Brunneus is so beautiful once mine got settled. I will try to get some good pictures for wrasse wensday. One of my favorite. Very small only 2 inch long. Almost half length of a pintail wrasse body.

My brunneus was very peaceful, but she/he wasn't fully transitioned (I think). I'm thinking of mixing an isoceles and a brunneus, which is typically a no-no since they are in the same complex. Anyone think they would get along, since both are on the more shy/peaceful end of the fairy spectrum?

I have them both in my tank, haven't had any issues,

This is me...

My Pintail and Brunneus are fine together. I just added the Pin first because it one of my most peaceful wrasses. And now for
Wrassse Wednesday….

Beautiful rhomboid. I wish they were easier to photo, because pictures just never do them justice.

Welcome to the wrasse world!

What are the dimensions of the tank? What species of “Christmas” Wrasse are you looking at?
It’s 48wide, 24tall, 14-18deep. It’s a clear for life flatback hex 75g. And I’m not sure on the genus stuff. I didn’t know there were multiples of the Christmas wrasse.

Yep, Christmas wrasse is a term given to 4 species;
Halichoeres biocellatus
Halichoeres claudia
Halichoeres ornatissimus
Thalassoma trilobatum

Shall we rank them!? Wrasse nerds, assemble!!

Here's my ranking for the Most Merry of Christmassy Wrasses:
Halichoeres claudia
Halichoeres ornatissimus
Thalassoma trilobatum
Halichoeres biocellatus

Naturally, only the claudia and biocellatus are adequate for smaller tanks, since the ornatissimus gets to 7in vs. the 3.5-4in of the former species. trilobatum without saying. Overall, I like the colors on claudia which seem brighter than the darker shades on the biocellatus.

:)

Happy wrasse wednesday!

And then there's the chrysus and bipartitis hiding from the big scary phone camera. Funny that the pinkie's become bolder than the bigger fish!
