The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Yes I do, I posted a pic a page or two back. He's a pretty aggressive wrasse but mostly just bark. Definitely king of the herd!

Really enjoying this guy. Gets along great with the hoevens and orchid dottyback.

Here is a Naoko's I picked up last weekend for a steal. First time I had ever seen one. He's in the penalty box to acclimate into the group. It does make it SLIGHTLY easier to get a shot. No flashing shots yet though. I love the Chalk Bass giving him some side eye.

Picked up two flashers this week, and I'm enjoying the show. [emoji7]

Yellowfin Flasher Wrasse
(Paracheilinus flavianalis)

We tried for a small group of those Cardinals, but only one lasted longer than a week. Much like experiences with Chromis. Our remaining one is kind of a meanie at times, but its never really hurting anyone. Just assertive and has standoffs with the Chalk bass, but doesn't bother the Wrasses.

Yeah, threadfin cardinalfish don't ship good. I had three die, and replaced only two, so I wound up having group of four. I had my LFS pick them up from the wholesaler, and I picked them up from his store within a few hours. I've had them for a few months, and their eating and doing well. (Actually getting a little fat lol) My new flasher wrasses however are the stars. [emoji12]

I received a shipment of 3 scarlet pinstripe's (1 for each tank I have). The 180 tank has a fairy wrasse and a yellow coris. The 40B has no wrasse. The frag tank has a yellow coris. So, introducing each one into their respective homes-guidance please, such as using an acclimation box?...introduce at night(lites out) or before lights on? All 3 scarlets are different in size , 1 1/2" , 2 1/2" and probably the biggest is a good 3". The 40B has 2 clowns, a Banghaii, royal gramma, starry blenny, yellowhead goby and spotted mandarin. Could the scarlet be too aggressive for the other fish that are in the 40B? I did have a yellow coris in there for a while and it seemed to get along with all. Have not had many wrasse over the years(only 5) so guidance is appreciated. Will the pests like flatworms, red bugs, etc? I know to cover the tanks for jumpers:0)

Scarlet pinstripe wrasses are in the genus Pseudocheilinus. Wrasses in this genus generally don't do well with other wrasses, and as they mature, any fish added can be picked on by them.

There may be initial interest in the new wrasses by the yellow coris, but also may be completely ignored. A social acclimation box can alleviate this.

+100

I wouldn't add one to the 180 tank.

Can you explain why you wouldn't add one to the 180 @evolved?

@eatbreakfast can you clarify- as they mature, any fish added may be picked on?....any fish or just the wrasses?

Best time to add them to their new homes? Thanks!!

Any fish, not just wrasses can be picked on.

^Right, because the risk of them being belligerent is somewhat high, and especially towards other wrasses. With wrasses already in the 180, it's not worth the risk. Plus, trying to catch/remove from a tank that size at a latter date isn't as simple as a smaller tank.

Adding a few to the mix of my recent purchases.

Flame male but also 2 female flames to go with him
Pintail Male
