Hi what is cf please.
Latin for "confer", meaning "resembles but different".

In this case, it's a place-holder for a yet undescribed species. (although the only thing it resembles about lanceolatus is the lancet shaped tail).

There are other examples where cf. is easier to understand; lunatus (Japanese) versus cf. lunatus (Philippine) for example.

Today my anemone got ahold of my flasher wrasse and ate him, I guess I'm not feeding my anemone this week

Nice Matt; how long have you had her?

He's so laid back, he hardly ever flashes at anyone else in the tank, despite the Exquisite trying to get him riled up.
That's a shame; you're missing out the best part of the species!

My LFS has a small Macropharyngodon negrosensis that is eating pretty well in their tank. I know your article says take caution when mixing with another in this genus. I have a 3" M. geoffroyi. What are my chances they get along? My tank is 72x24x21 and my other wrasses are C. rubrimarginatus, P. mccoskeri, P.attenuatus and H. chrysus.

As long as the leopards are not both male, pretty good.

LA had Labout's and Flames in the weekly specials starting today for a cool 89.99 each for medium sized females so I have one of each coming in next Tues to fuel my Wrassadiction.

I am hooked on wrasses now.

Added my first two wrasses to my tank last week and they are doing very well and eating like pigs:

1 Red Head Solon Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus solorensis)
1 Naoko's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus naokoae) who is inseparable from my Chevron tang. For some reason these two have become best buddies.

I saw a Lineatus super male Wrasse - Cirrhilabrus lineatus and he is definitely on my add list along with maybe:

1 McCoskeri Flasher - Paracheilinus mccoskeri OR
1 Carpenters Flasher - Paracheilinus carpenter

And an Exquisite Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus exquisitus).

I wanted to add a Radiant Wrasse (Halichoeres iridis) but my fish store said they kick up too much debris when they dive into the sand bed at night.

For those with sand burying wrasses in reef tank – is there diving with debris causing any troubles for you or should I just still to the cocooners?

Thanks,

Bob

I wouldn't worry too much about the kicking up sand at night. It's actually great for the sand bed. I wouldn't be without my leopards and Halichoeres wrasses. It's very much worth the SLIGHT sand kicking up at night. They look so cute waking up in the morning with sand on their noses.

I agree, Halichoeres and leopard wrasses are great in a reef. They eat coral parasites, are active and very colorful. And they really don't kick up much sand.

A question for all you wrasse freaks out there....

I'm planning a new 93 cube build. It's going to be a painfully slow process, but planning is part of the fun, right??

My plan is to center the livestock around leopard wrasses. I would like to know what other wrasses will play nice with the leopards and what I should expect in terms of # of fish and how best to introduce them. The goal is a wrasse dominant tank with lots of SPS. Again, slow build.....I want this to be done correctly and done once.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Thanks.

I've had good success with leopards in the past, but have never had any others with them. I appreciate the links.
