The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

It's been a bad week for the QT wrasses. First, the pintail jumped while I was feeding and I put him back. No problem, but there was a bit of drama in the tank.

Next day both the pintail and the splendens jumped at the same time while I was feeding. I don't know what spooked them or which jumped first. However, now as soon as I take the top off, the splendens freaks out and jumps. So I am leaving the top on and only feeding through the feeder hole, but as soon as the pipette goes in, the splendens freaks out. Before, he would attack the pipette trying to get to the mysis and would happily be there at the surface spitting water at me.

Come Thursday, he tried to jump with the lid on. Then he dove into the sand. Now he dives into the sand almost as soon as he sees me. Makes it hard to feed, now.

Any thoughts on calming this guy down? The pintail is also skittish now and won't come out of the corner when I'm in the room. At least I see him eat a bit of mysis when I'm out of the room...

My pintail is a little skittish but I've had a lot of luck feeding little bits while making him see me. He's a total pig so he's always willing to visit the person that feeds him

Until the jumping incidents they were hungry puppies always coming up to me for food. Now they're terrified. Thinking of maybe adding some aquascape. Fake bushes and a cave or whatnot. About to go hyposalinity so the macros and zoas are coming out.

It should fade in the comming days. My Naokoae has also jumped out of the tank at the beginning. Became skittish, but after a few days he was a hungry pig again.

Ok, picky Leopard Wrasse - she picks at the rocks and sand and hunts constantly. Soaking flakes and pellets in garlic seems to entice her but she still only seems to pick at the rocks more when I add garlic soaked food.

She seemed interested in Oyster Feast but she rarely picked any out of the water column.

Try San Francisco Bay brand eggs. My ornate loves them. Then goes back to picking at the rocks.

Where are you buying the SF eggs?
Petco

I just went to Petco and they didn't have them at the one I went to. Got some Reef Plankton for now to see. It says it's small for small fish and small mouths.

She's chasing the Reef Plankton and snatching out of the water! Maybe it's the bright red color or the siE, but she's definitely more interested in it than everything else I've fed.

It's interesting because I thawed a cube of Mysids and a cube of Reef Plankton and she is completely ignoring the Mysids. She's actually grabbed a couple and spit them back out.

She would probably like PE calanus as well.

I have 1 ocellaris clown, 1 springer damsel, and 4 chromis in my 45 gallon. I want to add one last fish (or maybe two) and I'd like it/them to be wrasses. Which wrasse(s) should I choose?

leopard wrasse and a Halichoeres wrasse?

Hi Fellas, been thinking a lot about my stocking list. It’s a 100 Gallon Tank and here is what I have reached so far and need some pointers.

2- Leopard Wrasses
With the below
  1. Lubbock Fairy Wrasse (Cirrihilabrus Lubbocki)
  2. Exquisite Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus Exquistus)
  3. Carpenter Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri)
  4. Yellow Wrasse ( Halichoeres chrysus)
  5. A Pair of Clown
  6. A Royal Gramma
  7. A Diamond Goby ( Sand Sifting)
  8. Bi-Color Blenny ( Not a must have )
  9. Blue Tang ( Not a must have )

Will any of the fish here cause issues against each other ? Mainly cause issues to the wrasse ? I also was wondering if the goby would get into conflicts with sand sleeping wrasses ?

Thanks

When it comes to wrasses I honestly wouldn’t have tangs. They become more of a hassle and it can really cause issues when keeping certain wrasses.
That was my main reason I didn’t go for an Achilles in my 5’ tank.

That makes sense, he isn’t a must have. If I can have a tank full of wrasse. Then I’m happy. Would a sand sifter cause any issue to the leopards?

I have one with my gang and half of them if not more are sand sleepers

My Bellus Angel hates all fairy wrasses. 2 tangs i have don’t care

Skip the blue tang as they get too big and active for a 100 gallon, get a dwarf angel instead. My 5' 100 gallon has the following in it (and I still have a few more additions still planned but not purchased yet).

1 Skunk Tilefish (Hoplolatilus marcosi)
1 Razor Goby (Oxymetopon cyanoctenosum)
1 Exquisite Firefish (Nemateleotris exquisita)
1 Pink Headed Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus chaliasi)
1 Yellow Flank Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus ryukyuensis)
1 Whipfin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus filamentosus)
1 Indo Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lubbocki)
1 Katoi Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus katoi)
1 Torpedo Wrasse (Pseudocoris yamashiroi)
1 Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella nigropinnata)
1 Yellow Coris Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus)
1 Dusky Wrasse (Halichoeres marginatus)
1 Cosmetus Wrasse (Halichoeres cosmetus)
1 Neon Wrasse (Halichoeres garnoti)
2 Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni)
1 Pajama Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia nematoptera)
1 Fusilier Damsel (Lepidozygus tapeinosoma)
3 Green Chromis (Chromis viridis)
5 Bartlett's Anthias (Pseudanthias bartlettorum)
1 Orchid Dottyback (Pseudochromis fridmani)
1 Lantern Basslet (Serranus baldwini)
3 Black Molly (Poecilia sphenops)
1 Pacific Double Saddle Butterflyfish (Chaetodon ulietensis)
1 Latticed Butterflyfish (Chaetodon rafflesi)
1 Rhino Bannerfish (Heniochus varius)
1 Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula)
1 Yellowfin Angelfish (Centropyge flavipectoralis) - in quarantine
1 Flagfin Angelfish (Apolemichthys trimaculatus) - in quarantine

Still going to hopefully add a coral beauty angel, a few more green chromis and fusilier damsels, a pair of clowns, some type of shrimp goby, a Bali tiger jawfish or 2, another 3 butterflies, a regal angel, and a cleaner wrasse. Possibly a couple more wrasses as well. I tend to stock much heavier than most people though.
