The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Skip the blue tang as they get too big and active for a 100 gallon, get a dwarf angel instead. My 5' 100 gallon has the following in it (and I still have a few more additions still planned but not purchased yet).

1 Skunk Tilefish (Hoplolatilus marcosi)
1 Razor Goby (Oxymetopon cyanoctenosum)
1 Exquisite Firefish (Nemateleotris exquisita)
1 Pink Headed Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus chaliasi)
1 Yellow Flank Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus ryukyuensis)
1 Whipfin Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus filamentosus)
1 Indo Lubbock's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus lubbocki)
1 Katoi Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus katoi)
1 Torpedo Wrasse (Pseudocoris yamashiroi)
1 Yellow Banded Possum Wrasse (Wetmorella nigropinnata)
1 Yellow Coris Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus)
1 Dusky Wrasse (Halichoeres marginatus)
1 Cosmetus Wrasse (Halichoeres cosmetus)
1 Neon Wrasse (Halichoeres garnoti)
2 Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni)
1 Pajama Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia nematoptera)
1 Fusilier Damsel (Lepidozygus tapeinosoma)
3 Green Chromis (Chromis viridis)
5 Bartlett's Anthias (Pseudanthias bartlettorum)
1 Orchid Dottyback (Pseudochromis fridmani)
1 Lantern Basslet (Serranus baldwini)
3 Black Molly (Poecilia sphenops)
1 Pacific Double Saddle Butterflyfish (Chaetodon ulietensis)
1 Latticed Butterflyfish (Chaetodon rafflesi)
1 Rhino Bannerfish (Heniochus varius)
1 Flame Angelfish (Centropyge loricula)
1 Yellowfin Angelfish (Centropyge flavipectoralis) - in quarantine
1 Flagfin Angelfish (Apolemichthys trimaculatus) - in quarantine

Still going to hopefully add a coral beauty angel, a few more green chromis and fusilier damsels, a pair of clowns, some type of shrimp goby, a Bali tiger jawfish or 2, another 3 butterflies, a regal angel, and a cleaner wrasse. Possibly a couple more wrasses as well. I tend to stock much heavier than most people though.

How long you have had Bartlets for? Do they fight?
How many times do you feed them?

Bit torn here. Anyone experienced with QT'ing wrasses?

My Pseudojuloides splendens pencil wrasse has had a complete change of personality since carpet surfing (while I was feeding him). Now he panics and tries to jump, slamming into the lid multiple times every time I come in and ultimately dives into the sand for the rest of the day/night, sometimes even when I just reach in and turn on the office lights. So for about a week he hasn't eaten at all, and it has been a week and a half since he ate well. Fortunately, he was a fatwrasse before carpet surfing, so he's got something to keep him going.

My question. I've had the pencil wrasse and the pintail fairy wrasse in this observation tank (2" live sandbed, love rock, macros/zoas, NOT a QT tank for copper/CP) for 7 full weeks. No prazi yet, because I am planning to prazi the DT since the blenny has flukes on its eyes. I was planning to start them on a 30 day hyposalinity treatment for ich/flukes prevention. But, now I am thinking that getting the pencil wrasse into the Display sooner rather than later might help him (at least provide him with food). So far no signs of disease, so if they have ich/velvet/brook/flukes/uronema/anything else, it must be asymptomatic.

Anyone know what the likelihood of them harboring ich or velvet long term as asymptomatics? Note: I am not running UV. If we are already talking about a low probability to begin with, I might be amenable to rolling the dice. I am not looking for confirmation of what I want to do/gonna do it anyway. Listening to opinions here. Thanks!

My personal feeling is that if you haven’t seen it in 7 weeks you’re probably not going to see it pop up suddenly. I would roll the dice especially if you’re already planning a treatment for flukes in the dt.

Just my opinion. But having already observed them 7 weeks and not showing signs while they are obviously stressed would make me willing to take the risk. I should also point out that I’m not overly likely to qt most wrasse anyway so I might not be the voice you are looking for

Thanks, I'll make a new post asking about asymptomatic carriage. My feeling is that if it's unlikely that they will be carriers for a long time, I might risk it. If carriage is common long-term, then no, probably not. Velvet, followed by ich, are my primary concerns.

Had them a few months now, no fighting at all. Started with 1 large male and 4 smaller females. Lots of distractions with the other fish and plenty of food goes a long way towards having them all get along. Same idea as my green chromis. My old 4' 110 gallon years ago had a group of 4 and it was the same scenario. 0 aggression with plenty of feeding and other fish to distract. 1 large male, 3 small females.

What’s plenty of feedings? 3-4 or more? Pellets?

3-4 feedings of frozen mysis, reef plankton, fish eggs, baby brine daily, and small NLS at least 2 of those feedings as well. On weekends or days my wife has off, this tank is probably fed 6x daily.

I missed #WrasseWednesday this week. Hopefully this makes up for it.

Was trying to photo my money cowrie for the CUC Lover's Thread, but Mrs. Pink Streak was feeling photogenic (and fat).

I need to be round my tanks more, some of my fish have lost the insane weight they had. Still fat but not round levels of fat.

Local trying to sell a pair of "flame wrasses" for $4500. Are these real jordanis?
If you want to start a dedicated post Id be happy to provide additional photos of the pair:)

Hello all
My Macropharyngodon meleagris leopard wrasse has recently started going through some changes. He’s got these amazing colors now. Bright pinks, teal, and yellows. He’s also getting very large he’s been about the same size for over 2years but now he’s every bit of 4”+. Not much of a photographer but I can’t find any that look similar on line so I had to share.
