Where did you get your Choati? Trying to get a tro but it seems people aren’t as excited or serious as I am

Think I know them all, except the second.

Isn’t the second a patriot fish or something. Can’t recall what it’s name is. Been bothering me. Think Dutch reefer on you tube had one. Amazing looking fish to say the least

I'm thinking it's an adult coloration of something. I've seen it before, but the name escapes me.

Is there a smaller size wrasse with a lot of blue or purple coloring? I have room for one more small one.

If I’m going to try the impossible fish why not pic that one as trying a group. It’s ok call me a Jack ***. If I can get them and pick them up from TSM I think I have a great chance. I will remove if they start to not get along.

Nope no calling anyone a ******* from me. I commend you for even trying it. It's the only leopard I have never owned.

All this talk of the choati, makes me want to take that 3 hour trip to the one guy I have been talking to(he gets all kinds of exotic wrasses) that owns an LFS if he could get me a choati! I just don't want him to order me one, and it comes in all crappy looking and sick. I would feel bad for not wanting to buy it.

I was just talking to my LFS about getting a pinstripe wrasse, but I also wanna get a flame hawkfish. Does anyone think that I could get a flame hawk and a wrasse? Has anyone had experiences with the pinstripe wrasse? Thanks.

Can you give the plain English common name for each of your beautiful fish pic by pic. They are stunning.

6. Johnson’s fairy wrasse

Wrasses and hawks will mix but there could be aggression. My Hawk is generally an ****** to anything that moves though, so it's not exclusive to my wrasses.

OMG!!!! You have a choati! I'm soooo jealous right now. I've actually never seen one in person. If I did, it would surly be coming home with me. I would rehome any fish that I had to if they didn't get along. One of my dream fish.

Thank you, I love the leopards. There's a trio of meleagris in the system as well. The meleagris have a definite pecking order, but the different species don't pick on each other in my system.

I've had the Potter's for two years. He's the largest leopard in the system.

Haha, this is the same for me!! They’re such a nice fish but such a pain they’re supposedly so hard. What is it that makes them hard? Is it the same as most other leopards with the shipping and internal parasites?

I'm not sure, but I would assume they suffer some of the same issues as most leopards. Shipping being a huge one. I've not read too many people that own one, and some of the problems they had with them.

One reason I'll probably never own one. I would not order it online, most decent LFS's that I would even consider ordering me one are soo far away(2 to 4 hours away), and I don't have a good enough of a relationship to have them order me one.

BUT....
If I ever walked into one, and they had it, I would not even question the purchase. Neither would my wife. lol

I agree with @homer1475 , they don't handle the stress of shipping well.

I've only ever cared for one choati, but I have had several leopard wrasse. My impression is that, in addition to shipping poorly, the choati are more finicky when it comes to feeding. I use an automatic feeder to feed freeze dried food to the system five times a day. The choati is the only one who still insists on frozen food.

A really beautiful fish with distinct colors though.

That is my thought to. Also I won’t have time to pamper them in a month or two. Early spring to Aug I work more then half the day

Aggressive wrasse and inverts will be a problem. Don’t know much about them as they are a risk I’m not willing to chance

Thank you! The tank gets fed 5-8 times / day and has a self sustaining pod population so that has helped. I've been working on getting better photos, so I appreciate that.

No unfortunately. He did fantastic for about a year then slowly declined as they are known to do. I do not know why. He was an aggressive eater. I love this video of him "kissing" my tang as I was hand feeding them.

My potters isn’t a hunter but doesn’t miss as morsel of food including nori. He even steals food from slower fishes mouths. Yes he is very obese

Sorry. I will have to see who I knew that had one for years and ask their thoughts. As always great video. I had to rewatch a couple times because I kept getting side tract with the potters.
leopard personality are what one me over. Tough and hunt like Halichoeres but peaceful and don’t get upset when someone nudges them like faires. Best of all lol. My potters never changes his course and will swim into any fish blocking him. Family members even asked if he was blind. Nope he just doesn’t care lol
