The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Took PAR measurements in the tank today. Sand sleepers weren't having it and peaced out. What caught me by surprise was the brunneus jumping out of the tank like a torpedo. Scooped her/him up and dropped her/him back in the tank, but couldn't find her/him for the life of me. Was hoping she/he didn't bolt into a nem. Fortunately, was back out and hungry by the next feed time :)

That’s a very pretty wrasse.

I love mine, just a bit annoyed he’s been hiding more than he has been hanging out. Hopefully when he’s in a 5’ tank he’ll be much happier.

Mine Is one of the smaller wrasses so it swims in the rockwork most the time too, but comes out to eat and show off so I got a pic of him..

Really wish there was a way to accurately sex these guys and worry less about mortal combat. I’d really like to get this guy a girlfriend so maybe he will chill out a bit.

I still don’t understand him. He will literally slam himself against the glass trying to flare up and fight me haha

Are mccosker wrasses jerks or it is just mine? I added one to my 80 gallon DT tank five days ago and now he is the boss of the tank.

He bullied the red and purple firefish to the point that they are now hiding all day.

He spends all day flashing and bothering the tailspot blenny and the three royal gramma.

Only ones he didn't cares about are the copperband and the clowns.

I thought those guys were supposed to be super peaceful.

See post right above yours by @jkcoral . Possums are also meant to be peaceful, but this particular specimen is a gangster. You should see the tomini tang constantly looking over its fins.

Each fish is unique. Maybe you just got the McCosker on the far end of the peace/war spectrum. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He could be a particularly ornery one, but then again, he could just be new and everyone will settle down in another week or two. He might just be tough talking to establish himself in the hierarchy.

I’ve had a few rowdy McCoskers over the years, but they were usually just always running around flashing, not really attacking anyone. But there’s always outliers. Make sure you feed heavy so no one has to fight for food!

Mine is currently doing the same and flashing towards my royal gramma and firefish to an extent. It’s not all that frequent though, other than that he’s chilling in his area of the tank. For the most part it’s just the darting around, but he’s only been in for about 3-4 weeks so maybe he’ll settle down soon.

I love this thread! Not only for the continuous eye candy that is WRASSE; but for the detailed descriptions of habits and personalities of them. And
comparing different experiences of the same kind, and how you manage those differences.

This will help me as I look to add to the wrasse family in my reef.

Just wanted to say Thanks!

You got to get a picture of this gem flashing. They are one of the most beautiful of the wrasses.
BTW they are all a little different in colorations and marking.
