The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

If I get a dusky that is 2.5", will it get to 6+ inches in my 180? how fast do they grow? Or will he be limited? I've had my blue tang for years and he stays around 4"...same with my regal angel, stays at 3.5".
Seriously? My lfs made it seem like a tang would outgrow our 65 tank within a year at a massive growth rate

You have to remember with tangs, they grow fast until they’re half way to their max size. A 4” tang sounds small until you see their activity.

I have a chrismas wrasse in QT right now, and he is constantly digging his nose into the glass bottom trying to find sand. I put a tupperware of sand in it but he wont use it. Even when section the tank off so that he is forced to use the tupperware, he wont.. he continues to dig into the glass..

It seems like he is so stress to find sand he wont eat .. Any ideas how to get him to use the tupperware? I havent had the issue with other wrasse in past.

Is he trying to dive into the glass or is he rubbing against it? No sign of disease or parasites, just seems stressed?

Not scratching, no ich. . just trying to dive his nose into the glass.. He has not slept in the sand I gave him at night. Seems to be dumb ... doesnt know the tupperware is the sand.

I know you guys get a ton of questions asking for stocking suggestions but I hope you don't mind another. I'd skip cyanogularis, the others should be fine with the fish you've picked. Ryukyuensis get larger than a lot of other fairies, but tend to be big pushovers IME. I would add the solorensis last, or at the same time as the ryukyuensis.

Do you mean the now named aquamarinus for solorensis? If you do, mine is incredibly chilled out and with a carpenters flasher.
Cyanogularis as said above may be a bad idea with how boisterous they can become.
Lubbocki is a great choice - I loved mine but be careful as there are 2 variants and within those variants are even more variations of colour. I had both variants at the same time and they didn’t seem to mind each other - there was mostly some displaying going on throughout the day when one felt he was bigger and then backed down.
Ryukusensis I’ve yet to have in my own reef but in LFSs I’ve mixed them with other fairies and generally they’re great with them. They’re larger (5-6 inches) but I’ve never really seem aggression from them. Instead I find they get bullied easily.

Anyone know wrasse spines/skeletons?

It could be the kaleidos but the tail appears wrong for the Pseudojuloides genus (I hope at least…).

But!
We say goodbye to him on Saturday.

Too bad you can’t send him to a huge public aquarium.
My LFS has 8’ coral trays that he’ll likely go into as he does an amazing job at hunting pests.

They’re not even that same species?!

Question is… which one will arrive?
Same species! They are not even the same genus or even close! No wonder they can't tell a lunare wrasse from a melanurus....

They both have 8 lines. Whaddaya complainin' for?
Well, if I order the comedic actor Mike Myers, I'm gonna be pretty upset if the serial killer from the Halloween movies, Micheal Myers, shows up at my door. And yes I think that is a very accurate metaphor as like the wrasse both of those people look a little weird and an eight line wrasse is definitely the fish equivalent of Micheal Myers the serial killer.

You know how worked up this sort of thing gets me...
