Thought some fellow wrasse lovers might like this beauty! She's a rare juvenile black ear wrasse (halichoeres melasmapomus) from the Cook Islands and was added to the tank last night and already smashing everything I'm feeding :) please excuse the terrible phone pics!

Where did you get this? I have been searching for LITERALLY 2 years. I google search all scientific names (Xanti and Melasmapomus) and common names (earmuff, black eared, etc). weekly to and filter by date to see anything new!

Jealous! Nice fish!

haha I found her by chance. I was at my LFS (here in Australia lol) and he knows that I've been after a mystery wrasse for ages and decided to show me this beauty (I completely missed her while browsing!) and I was pretty much sold instantly! She's absolutely stunning and a gem of a fish to own too :) I was sooo lucky that my lfs had missed out on all the good fish from one supplier and the collector rang him and said "hey, so we have this little gem I think you might like", he jumped on that of course given how rare they are! And that's the story lol She's only about an inch or two long so she's tiny.

Thanks :) She's amazing too, devours any flake, pellet, frozen, prepared, fresh or whatever food you can think of with great gusto and is nearly part of the family :) There's still a few moments from my pair of flame hawkfish and dwarf angel just letting her know who the bosses are but otherwise she has settled brilliantly (after escaping acclimatisation in a day lol usually they get a week before being allowed into the tank haha). I'll take plenty of pictures for you then!

Here is ok picture with my phone at LFS here in Madison Wisconsin. Its the biggest and nicest looking Earmuff Wrasse I've ever seen. Its got to be 6" long.
