That was one of my initial tests, but no. There was only the stock DC pump and a small heater running in the tank and both of those have been since used in another system and a QT tank.No stray electric current ?
For the last four months it's been fallow? Have you been feeding the tank? Adding ammonia? If doing nothing at all, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't look much different today than it did four months ago.I went back and re-read this entire post. It really bothers me. There were some people that were great and threw out ideas that I explored and I am grateful for that. There are others that gave really bad suggestions and some of those folks continue to dole out "advice" which is scary because there are newbies on this forum that may think just because you post a lot, you know what you are talking about. Those people need to base their personal opinions on science or personal experience, not hearsay, because that is detrimental to aquarists everywhere. It bothers me because somebody new to the hobby may do a search and this post may come up and it will only serve as a continuation of bad advice and hearsay.
If some of you are curious about what happened to this tank, I will tell you.
Nothing...
Just that.
I was debating on how to approach the situation. All the while the tank ran for a month, maybe more...
Lights turned on every day, pumps ran, I would fill the ATO up when it was low.
Nothing. Not one speck of algae anywhere...
This is with (if you read my OP) an introduction of Bio-media from another tank.
I will have to say even four months later, there is only the slightest discoloration where the sand meets the glass. I would have to assume that any toxin that was present was either a gas that has evaporated or a chemical has been absorbed by the sand/rock.
I might of been dismissive of some suggestions because it was akin to my car running out of gas and people suggesting that the reason it won't run is because it is low on oil.
To those people I suggest that unless you have something to say that is constructive and valid...
Just be silent, observe, and you just might learn something.
I gave up back in September because my 15+Yrs in this hobby was essentially dismissed by, “I do this all the time and it works”…until it didn’t.
I wish you luck…
Pretty much it has been fallow. I have seen bottled spring water that has been left out in the sun grow algae on the inside. I initially put in bio- media from another tank to help start the cycle. The photosynthetic's would have grown given that all the elements were initially there. It was almost like there was chlorine in the water, but that tested out negative also. The RODI water was the same water I used for all my other tanks, the salt mix was the same I use for the QT tanks. For the last four months it's been fallow? Have you been feeding the tank? I believe that he felt I dismissed his opinion and his 15+ years of experience with my knowledge and experience. And to be honest, I did.Sorry, what does that mean?
IMO way to early/fast to add fish regardless of adding bacteria; but that’s just meWhat is the basis in that? I add fish to a fresh QT system all the time. Like I said in my post, I added an established ceramic media to the system. I in NO WAY over worked the BioLoad.
Did anybody question the family cat?![]()
