The vendors left at the end of the day will be those that offer true to life specimens, provide great customer service, and charge prices that the market is willing to continue to pay over and over again.

For the people who are trying to imply certain vendors inflate their prices and photo shop their corals, you would be making a more powerful statement by 1) never buying anything from them again and 2)not mentioning their names on forums or bashing their prices and practices. You'll find that they will just go away naturally. Buy saying "oh I'm too poor to buy these corals!" or "why would anyone in their right mind pay these prices!" you are stroking the egos of the people on here reading and in the hobby because they can afford to buy those corals. It's just as much about posting a picture of a rainbow colored piece of snot and proclaiming ownership or bragging to your local reefers about a new hot piece as it is about owning the coral itself! By starting threads like this, OP, I hate to say it, but you probably just perpetuated the buying and selling of high priced corals. And us continuing to post about it is doing the same as well.

Best comment in 10 pages, but this debate will continue for another 10 with the same points being made over and over time and again. I think we all get it, some of you really hate this, some of you don't care. So those of you that hate it, just chill, sit back and be the genius in the end with what you want for what you wanna pay. And those that don't care keep doing what you do. These threads are getting a little old with the same responses over and over.

I know when I see something reef related I want I usually sell a few frags maybe do some tradeing and eventually it works out for me. Ohh yea id rather have a cobra than a Ferrari also.

Thanks Dave. Yes it was just a pure example of wish vs reality, not the specs of manufacturing techniques. This is the problem with the world as some of you have stated. Some people here would rather complain about prices, rather than figure out how to get the corals through trading, or other means. Its the same people that sit around and complain about not being able to get a $50 an hour job when they didn't even specialize in anything,or make things workout. Whos the real idiot, the person selling the coral for $500 and driving the vet, or the person complaining about how they are overpriced on a website.

Haha thanks for proving my point, PM sent. He wont sell them normally that cheap but I have some equipment he wants that I don't need that im trading in too. And letting him use my par meter, hustle harder baby!

I can agree that a company can and should charge however much.they can possibly get. Nothing wrong with that, its good business. I don't really care about "fair pricing for everyone" as you say it. If someone wants to pay a ton of money on a frag to try and impress others, that's their business. Would I be impressed by your 1" "incredible named acro" you bought for $5,000? No. Actually I would laugh inside by how much of a sucker you are. With this post you have pretty much explained how this hobby has come to vendors and hobbyists alike are trying to one up others because of the price point. Personally I would gain more gratification from a $5 coral that's beautiful over one that may look just a tad better at 300x the price. Value can be held in more ways than how much it costs monetarily. If that's how someone is going to get gratification in this hobby, then more power to them. I'm in no way saying there's anything wrong with them doing so. Its just not how I get gratification out of this hobby, and there's nothing wrong with that either.

Agreed with the "all for nothing". I was just talking about this to my father in the car before.

That goes for everything. I used to work at a nursery.. People wanted the most beautifully done up hanging pots we would put together.. The cast iron pots cost 50 dollars alone. Yet they only want to pay 20 dollars for the entire thing. Never mind the pot has 20 dollars of flowers in it.

All complaining, and not wanting to pay the market value for the products creates is lower quality goods. Why would we carry 20 of those hanging baskets with the top quality plants when only 10 people will come in and buy them, and we didnt. The rest get common plants and plastic pots. Than they complain that it doesn't have the same quality..

Now that I think of it, people complaining about the prices sound fairly similar to those people that do not understand you generally get what you pay for.

The market simply adjusts itself to the fair market value for goods, there is no wholesaler/vendor that has a monopoly on this market. You are free to shop where you wish.
 
I agree that this topic is entertaining for sure lol.. In the words of Rodney King can't we all just get along lol. :neutral:

You can spray dog poop with perfume but in the end it is still dog poop . Photoshop is the same way and it is really driving prices in my opinion
 
This is how I think. If you think it is photoshopped or is outrageously priced dont buy it. But dont blame the vendor or call the person who bought it a fool. Who cares how one spends his money. Once he pays taxes on it it is his to spend. These kinda threads make these vendors famous and is form of marketing.

If I like a coral I will buy it. You might not like my selection but then again I did not use your money to buy it.
