plasic containers are far superior for shipping purposes, alot of people are starting to use medical sample containers to ship. (urine cups)

It was the urine cups that leaked onto the heat pack when I shipped. The key with these is that they need to be secured in the cooler so they don't bounce around during shipping since it seems they lose their lids quite easily.

I would say its touch and go; got some in about two weeks prior to X-mas, water temp 55 degrees. One of the single polyp frags has been opening up just small amounts for a couple weeks now, but still hasn't been fully opened. The other single polyp frag has never opened, but still hasn't melted away. The freebie opened up almost right away, but out of six to ten polyps only two remain. Hope you have better luck than me. As the others said, I would stick with moderate flow, low lighting and no dipping to stress them out further.

I honestly can't believe you took a chance shipping a whole nice colony of nightmares with 2 day shipping in the middle of winter. Good luck.

I feel you man. I havent done the 2 day shipping, getting waaaay to cold in here to do that, and quite frankly I dont think it is worth the risk. But this winter I have lost 1 chalice, 1 SPS, and 1 chalice is **** near dying. Heat packs were in the box but both shipments water was waaaay cold.

As for your zoas I would go low light, med flow. I have done that to a few that I didnt think would make it and they recooperated. Hopefully a few if not all survive.

This happend to me last year. I fraged them and just diped one frag. The diped frag sirvived.

haha...

didnt make it...

Urine containers and stuff like that are fine. I just had trouble getting them out of the gatorade bottle. I dont even know if there was residue gatorade in there, doubt it but IMO i wouldnt ship in a bottle like that. If i had to use a gatorade bottle i would cut it in half and use it as a protective covering over a bag filled with water and the coral.

By the way how are they doing?

Keep us updated Ryan. From the looks of the rest of your collection your water parameters should be excellent. BTW did you acclimate properly the nightmares? Proper acclimation would be a factor to if they make it or not.

i just receved several frags in and all were in the 60 degree temp. only 2 are not doing well. yellow jackets and ppe. the yellow jackets are melting and the ppe are starting to open up. they were packed excellent and sent overnight so no ones fault.

I just got a few chalices and zoas the other day. They were shipped overnight and didn't even leave the state. When I got them the heat pack was warm, but the water was freezing! I should have checked to see how cold it really was, but I was more concerned about warming them up. I put them in my sump to warm up for 20 mins, then started adding 3/4 cups of water from my tank every 10 mins, and finally added iodine for 15 mins. They all seem to be doing fine now. Hope yours make it!

They did not :(
Not a single polyp....
Super duper really sucks!

Thanks for the concern Sara!
