My regular UPS guy *is* a reefer. Every equipment/livestock delivery is a conversation.

Sounds like me :)

Great when the salt store on my route has a half dozen boxes coming in Next Day Air......few minutes of break time to see them open some, and some lunch time later in the latter part of the day to see them in the displays.
Also stop in whenever just to relax and get away from the day for a bit and hit the reset button.

And of course when you're in the hobby you know what boxes are fish or supply deliveries when making a stop such as from Bulk Reef, so you make a little chatter with the peeps and ask about their system.

Not many reefer in my area but anyone that comes over can see nothing to hide and no doors to fall off or anything. I don't worry about children or adults messing something up.

Well my tank is in my restaurant. So there is absolutely no privacy. Which I am fine with. When I'm cleaning it or working on things, the employees or customers always want to know whats going on. I love answering their questions and helping people learn about aquarium life. I do have preventive measures, like a top on the tank. Locks on the cabinet doors. And everyone knows if they see someone banging on the glass we get to scold them. The employees have almost adopted the tank as their own. Although they don't help in anyway besides looking at it and occasionally using the magnetic cleaner, they really do care about it and let me know about every little thing they see. As far as other reefers. A lot of them have come to the restaurant to see it. Especially since our LFS in close by and he lets other reefers know about my tank. I invite all to see my setup and I listen to others opinions, but as we all know nobody knows your tank like you do.
Love to see your tank, meet you and OF Course eat at your Restaurant. I’m over in Nashotah, what’s the name of your restaurant

My wife and I are very private. I only have 2 friends in the area that have seen 2 of my 3 tanks. I have a frag tank and a reef tank in my living room. I also(shhhhh secret) have a 60 gallon frag tank in my man cave that no one but my wife and son has ever seen the corals in it. No pictures nothing ever posted of it. Some of its babies/frags are in my other 2 tanks. I find it peaceful to sit back and enjoy corals that no one but myself has seen in years, since I first acquired them. Maybe that's the scuba divers side idk. I know my wife doesn't like people walking through the middle of our living room to buy or trade corals. I live close enough to Orlando to meet about anywhere. Happy wife happy life! I really couldn't care less what others think of me or my corals so I don't post a lot of pictures of them. I do try to help other reefkeepers out as much as possible when they want and appreciate it, as long as it doesn't affect my family first.

All these years (since 2004) only 1 reefer buddy aside from all my family members has actually seen my system ... plus my wife isn't too comfortable having someone she doesn't know inside the house. A whole lotta local reefers only know me by my username & have never met me personally.

I usually host a club meeting once a year. But I don't let random people in my house. They have to be a club member or someone a family member knows. However, I do dog sit in my house and have clients coming over for meet and greets all the time. Most of them are more interested in talking dogs than fish tanks. There are a few that say "oh you have a fish tank" and if they ask to see it, I will show them without going into details. Unless they ask something about it specifically, I just say "here's my saltwater fish tank. And I only show the 34 gal tank that is visible, and not the 180 in the basement to these kind of people. But I can show and talk for hours to fellow club members stopping by to buy a fish or frag or borrow something. I don't always know the club member, but figure if they are a club member I will let them in. We use to host a lot of parties (friends and my husbands work colleagues) and people were always respectful of the tanks. Kids always enjoy seeing them but, I make it clear to them to not touch! I am always willing to educate non reefers about the hobby if they show interest.

Hey just fill out these forms for your background check and security clearances and I'll get back to you in 6 to 12 months. I'm a corrections officer in a state prison, so I'm not real open to people coming to my house. But if you pass that background check I might invite you over in a couple years.
