well lastyear 2010 March we were hit with a storm of 50-60 mph winds and 10" of rain. This put most of the area with out power for 6-7 days. I had a generator running along with a few lights, TV and frigerator.
This new Huricane Irene Is a killer, They are predicting a catogory 2 (100pmh) to hit the northeast Sunday.
Im in a panic, My whole family left to our Puerto Rico villa for 10 days but I decided late last night to stay behind. I have the generator out and Im getting things ready but Im real nervous. My tank has been doing so well lately and Im sure Im doomed. Im home alone with my dogs hoping to get through this horrible storm

good luck i really hope it dies down or goes east before its gets to long island i don't have a generator or the money to buy one :(

yes, its our family vacation that we do once a year so my wife left early today and I decide to stay for the tank, the dogs were going to my mother in laws but since im here there keeping me company. Thanks everyone for the support

Now that's some love for the tank!!!!

A reef tank cant go long with out flow or steady temp, tha alk or calc will not swing until after a full day with out power

She's a killer for sure, some nasty winds and a LOT of rain. Use your power generator for the return pump and nothing will die. Wish you the best of luck, stay safe!

Good Luck Bill! We're all in the same boat over here so let's keep our fingers crossed. We're getting some nasty storms in tomorrow so Irene will wallop us for sure. That's going to be waay too much rain in the next few days.

just saw a weather up date, Sunday she will run us over. Just hoping it dosent tear down power lines

thanks everyone, Buckle up she is coming there 100 percent certain. There just not exactly what path but all paths will still come over NY,CT,MASS. I am building a canopy today. I have my workers helping me. Surf&turf be carefull your in the path to in West Virgina

batten down the hatches because the big blow is coming!

Bill I'm right here with you out on the South Shore of Long Island, got my generator ready and just crossing my fingers everything stays in one piece

fyi...for anybody in the path of Irene and you haven't taken any necessary steps for long term power outages, well now is your chance to get a generator or other mode of back-up to keep your reef alive through this thing, don't be one of the sorry ones
