Those that have used chemiclean

I know a lot of you guys have used it and I know many are against chemicals, however what is done is done. I dosed two days ago around 6 or 7PM. Here's what I did. I shut my UV off, took out my chemipure elite and added an airstone to my DT. I left the skimmer on, but even at the lowest setting it was overflowing. I raised it by 3 or 4" and loosened the collection cup so if overflows at the neck and collects in the cup (it was still overflowing at a higher water level and lowest setting). So my question is, how long did you see any type of results? I know it hasn't even been 48 hours and the directions say up to 48 hours, but I woke up to a lot of cyano and more has grown throughout the day.

It is great stuff and will work in about two or three days. Turn off your skimmer completely

Turn it off? The directions say leave it on. Also, at the 48 hour mark, should still do a water change and add the carbon back in?

Leave your skimmer on to oxygenate the water, but don't collect anything for 3 days is my understanding. Open your windows for a bit every day to get fresh air in the house, too! If you still see cyano after 48 hours, do your 20% water change, and then dose again, and do another 20% water change after 48 hours. Add carbon, and start skimming 24 hours later. I just make sure that the power heads are pointed at top of water for gas exchange, and love the results of chemiclean! Also, use fresh product! It doesn't work well when old. I always add a little extra - 16 level scoops in 125 gallons of actual tank water.

Have noticed that your filter socks get a slime coat on them and oveflow?

IME it works best if you add some air stones to the tank and leave the skimmer off or at a setting it doesn't overflow.

After the 48 hours or so has passed, I always let my skimmer wet skim and overflow (into my skimmate collector) for an hour or so while topping off with fresh saltwater. It usually cuts out overflow mania after that.

Well, the 48 hours is almost up. I am going to do a water changem put my UV back on and add fresh chemipure elite. Is this OK, even though I still see the cyano in the tank?

I leave mine on but remove the cup. strictly because it will help oxygenate the water. leaving it on with the cup on will cause it to overflow like nothing else. If it is not in your sump, leave it off.

Do the water change and add the chemipure back. The cyano will continue to die off for about a week. If you still have some after that, hit it with chemiclean again. IME one does usually dose the job

Alright, maybe someone can help me further. I just checked my phosphates again and it's down to .03 (from .07) and absolutely no nitrates. How could I still have a nutrient issue?

I do this, which is the original directions. They changed the directions at some point but it works better to turn it off IMO.

48 hours usually does the trick for me. I'd do another round if needed.

Im still getting some growth. Should I give it a few more days or treat again tomorrow.

When I used it I left my skimmer running but took off the cup and let it bubble over into the sump so I didn't need an air stone . Went just over 48 hours and did have a little cyano when I did my water change. It was all gone a few days after and haven't seen any since. It's been 4 months
