Throw Back Thursday

So you want a throw back picture, how about this one. I no longer have the tank, but it is how I started.

This is from 1993. Sorry for the poor quality, had to take a picture of the print, no digital cameras back then.

My $10 10g Petco tank. I had a 90g corner saltwater (wouldn’t call it a reef) tank when I was a kid, but this 10g was my first tank in the years after moving out on my own. It was truly a learning experience. lol I made so many mistakes, but that drove me to learn everything I can. Now, I’ve just got an IM10 with a clown pair for my girlfriend in my place, and a 40B in my basement I’m patiently waiting to set up.

First photo is 4 years ago after setting it up, second/third after it had been up 9 months, and fourth photo about a year ago. before taking it down.

Happy Thursday!
For #TBT lets see your very first coral. Feel free to show pictures of when you first got it, and what it looks like today (if you still have it)
My first coral was a single head of Hammer Euphyllia

It ballooned up to this

Then after an unfortunate accident, were back down to two heads but growing and splitting fast!

Man we are taking it back! MY first coral was a mushroom rock with a bunch of random mushrooms on it. I had no idea and thought it was cool and knew after doing research they are easy to take care of. My first tank biocube 29 gallon and it only took 2 months for me to go out and buy a 65 gallon. I was hooked and still am lol. I do not have this coral anymore It was a long time ago and I think I traded it to a LFS at some point.

Broke that tank down in 2010, sold the house in 2017. One day I'll post a thread on R2R that has my past tanks and the one I set up in Feb of this year.

*Edit: Im sorry, I just saw the post about this being a first coral throwback thread. Please delete this post. Thanks.

For today's throw back #TBT tell us your first hitchiker you found. Good or bad. Mine was an asterina starfish. I thought it was the coolest thing ever....until years down the road and now I've got millions of them ;Hilarious

Oh no! :( sorry to hear that

Oddly enough I kept or probably my parents kept it for me...this tank from around 1963 when 5 and I had goldfish in it. I found it in my parent's garage when I went into the military in 1976. It was an oddly sized 17g.

I recall setting it up around 1990ish when my oldest son was 5 (the same age as when I kept the goldfish in it) Resealed it around maybe 1999, bought some old halide and then another set on tank halide (Current? and looks maybe to be an old AquaClear) at some point until the iron frame started rusting...maybe ~2002 Times sure have changed. Good memories though.

Oldest pic I can find for #TBT (nothing fancy, but throwback for sure). lol.

I'm glad I just fragged mine.

I was so sad when I broke it and ended up with only two heads. But had alot of happy friends with free hammer frags lol

Heres a few more old pics from years ago. A 36 bow front and a clam pic. You can see how small the squamosa was back then. That little frag of spongodes in the 36 is what the large colony started as.
