It not going to be that cheap... by the time you factor in how much shipping costs for non business it will be quite expensive especially if the rules are that buyer must provide the shipping box and pre paid postage. Might cost the same or more than online. Think of it as the buy nothing of coral.

For all the people that live somewhere where they can't get rid of their corals and have to throw them away consider saving them until you take a trip.

I boxed up well over 100 pieces including things like Kenya Trees I was happy to sell for $1.50 wholesale along with some nicer things like neon toadstools and zoas and palys.

I then took the money and bought these guys + took my wife out for a nice Korean bbq dinner.

The guy who got my big shipment was happy, he'll make some money. The corals will go into various other systems and in the future I can repeat the process. It's not as profitable or as easy as having people come by and pick up $20-$50 worth of frags which is what I typically would do if I didn't live in the middle of no where but it was still very worthwhile both in turns of making a little money and it was a lot of fun.

Even if 2nd day is what, $15-25, plus shipping materials being $5, if we just give the coral away it is still asking people to pay $30. Notice how people even in this thread aren't saying "I'll pay you $30 for what you guys are throwing away", its "if anyone is close to X I'll take the corals".

Shoot, i would gladly pay for shipping and packing. My tank is so sad looking after its crash a month or so ago(emergency tank swap, doesn't rinse sand[emoji17])

I'm throwing out more reefbowl montipora whorls. If any of y'all was near me I'd truck it over to you free but it's not worth shipping, lfs wouldn't care one way or the other so it's trash filed like bulk xenia.
It'll need culling again by summer.

This is very special strain monti / hate to dump it but I have no room. It is roughly f10+ generation from mo colony, immune to extended cold in the sixties, no form of peroxide use kills it we use 35% for training, and I would estimate it can survive an hour + or longer outside of water.

I have to. No local stores(Petco), no local reefers. Had a deal worked out with the guy at Petco for 50% off livestock for bringing in frags. Took in 6 mushroom frags on new plugs and 2 giant emerald crabs and he didn't live up to his word so I paid $10 for a small blue knuckle crab. Won't buy anything from that store (saltwater wise) due to the liar employee. What's funny, is all the frags and one of the crabs was gone the next day.

I throw a ton of coral away I’m a bit problematic in the head, and my tank has vermetids, aiptasia, hydroids and whatnot, so I don’t want other people to have them even for free because of the possibility of transfering pests & wrecking their tanks

I'm in Old Forge. Your just a bit south of me. lol I frequent ABC reefs in Syracuse, and my favorite in the area are ARC and Caribbean Forest. One of these days I'll make it up to Green Mountain Corals in VT(it's actually closer then ARC). Went there one time when they were supposed to be open, but they were not.

Currently have nothing as far as clipping because I'm recovering from a year old tank crash(everything is just becoming colonies again, and not tiny frags). If you had caught me a year ago.........GSP, Birdsnest, Monti caps, Bi color hammers, frogspawn, octospawn, Rainbow BTA's by the handful. Have a few LPS now, but trying more of the SPS game now.

There is a 518 Reefer club that just stood up here. Albany area. I just left Albany in June, moved to Portsmouth, VA for a job. I never knew there were so many reefers up there, until I got here. Just my luck.

These throw out stories really make me sad. Last month again I brought a box of pom pom xenia and kenya trees to a fish store (7hrs from home btw) they were very happy to give me $270 credit for them. I invested a couple of bucks in plugs and dollar store glue and I guess a couple dozen bags. Got a bunch of supplies, a yellow tang for a friend which these days cost a lot more but since it was basically free didn't care, and a rabbit fish for my frag tank.

When I got rid of all these frags I took my eggcrate out to clean and probably made another 15 or 20 frags from whatever had just grown off plugs onto the racks.

My local fish stores in Albany, NY will not take them. I have tried. Fish yes, coral no. It is odd I think. Kenya trees were overgrown in my tank as well as Palys. I actually like both, but they ere killing other coral. Purple Star Polyps do the same and I can slow them, but they eat just about anything. I felt really bad the first time, but it fades when you have to save another coral.

Was that Eddies? I used to live about three miles down the road from them.

I'm not a fan of selling stuff cheap or giving it away for free and then watch that person you gave it to turn around and resell it for a profit. I believe it is insulting. I see my husband go through this stuff with car parts. He gives stuff away on his off-roading forum or on craigslist because the hobby can be expensive and if he doesn't need it, he figures some other rock crawler should have it. Then he sees it immediately for sale online. He feels disappointed. However, if it is the choice between having a person resell it or you throw it away, I'd prefer the resell it method -- as shameful as it is. Because eventually, someone would use it vs. it rotting in the garbage.

Wow 7 hours. The chances of me making that kind of trip in the next several years is slim to nil. I can’t even manage the 2 hour trip to the nearest lfs. Truthfully when I throw away coral, it’s not stuff I’m “bored with” or frags that just sit on the rack for too long. It’s one of two scenarios

1). It’s an “invasive” level montipora of sorts that starts to get uncomfortably too far past my imaginary border I’ve set. It is either beginning to encrust over or kill a more desirable piece. Or the plates stretch too far and start shading more desirable pieces. Those are normally cut intentionally and dried out if nobody local wants them (they never do). If someone wanted to PM me I would be happy to make them up a pack of various montipora I throw away if you pay full shipping and packaging costs (usually will be around $50 for label and box shipped anywhere to the lower 48, sometimes less depending on how close)

2) an emergency. An acro will get large and heavy enough it will snap at the base and fall face down onto the rocks and sand. It’s too heavy to glue back down and I don’t have room to cram a colony somewhere else without affecting other things, so if it’s not a highly valuable piece, I will normally cut a few large chunky frags quickly and just dry out the rest of it. I can’t let a colony just sit there stinging everything else it touches, which will eventually lead to the whole thing dying anyway, and likely taking others with it. It’s hard to get rid of a 12+” stag on literally a moments notice.

I’ve seen that happen to me. I’ve sold very large frag packs and given good deals on them based on volume, and then 2 weeks later I see half my frags posted by the same buyer, but HEAVILY photoshopped and at a 3-4x price point what I charged. It’s irritating. I suppose all is fair in a free market, but still. Kinda irks me

Also look it as a disaster recovery plan. You spread your stock into multiple places and it is a contingency plan in case of a crash you can always restock your tank from what was given away.
