Throwing in the towel?

And I do appreciate all the support you guys. I apologize if I'm a little bummed at the moment.
Man, being "a little bummed" is more than understandable. Wish we could help somehow. Hopefully things pull through for you.

Absolute gutter!! How long do you think you had been overdosing for? Did you take your water parameters? It would be interesting to see what they were all at.

Please don't give up! I just started 2 weeks ago into the hobby. Vets like you provide noobs, Like me, me hope and passion for the hobby! You can bounce back quick! Good luck!

Tank crashes are the worse! 4 in 2 years can be overwhelming. Don't give up. Reboot and come back stronger. Possibly now would be a good time to automate some of it to alert you via controller if you don't have one.

Sorry to hear, that sucks. Take some time to really think about getting out. I don't think that it is a decision that can be made at this time. Save what you can take a deep breath and you will figure it out.

About 8 hours. Parameters were very odd. CA 430 mag 1470 alk 5.5. Almost seems like there was acid in the tank. It has come back after two days after dosing some baking soda to 7.7. After the first dose it came up to 7.2 and back down to 5.7 in 18 hours.

This can't be good

I have kalked my tank several times and never had a loss from it. And if you overdosed Kalk I would expect alkalinity to be raised ehich it isn't. I would check out your CO2 levels, do you have gas heat that just started coming on?

It's not ph, the windows were open and the skimmer intake is outside. I doubt you dosed as much kalk as I did in that time. It wasn't normal saturation. What I can't make logic of is if it precipitated the ca and mag should be low too. The only thing I'm sure of us that it got a substantial amount of kalk that day.

That Sucks.take a break if your feeling bummed.I have been in this hobby for a long time and it's healthy to take breaks from time to time.wish you the best.oh and happy turkey day

Happy turkey day to you too. I'm looking at about 15 years in reef and almost 25 years in aquaria....

Don't give up you'll regret it.I almost did it also I've been keeping aquariums for 40+ years.Recently my health hasn't been good after my fourth heart attack (i have had 11 heart attacks total)I just felt I couldn't keep up with my tanks.but realized that's what keeps me going is trying to take care of the tanks. I moved all my tanks to a 125 gallon so I only have one to worry about.and am just now back ready to introduce corals again. Plus its all worth it when my grandkids come over and stand and stare into my tank and ask ooh pappa what's that and what's this and ask hey whats that fishes name. That's why I keep my tank around. So don't give up keep trying and keep moving forward learn from your mistakes it is really worth it in the end. Good luck to you

Sorry to hear about your problems. I had a tank crash about 6 years ago. Took a break for almost 5 years. Got back into it almost a year ago and totally upgraded. Everything new. Bigger and better. Have an Apex now which gives a piece of mind. Good luck!

I'm thinking once it hits 0 I should throw like 6 fish in it because it just cycled really hard

Sorry to hear this sad news Pete, I believed for every misfortune something great will replace our troubled and heartache days. Bright new days will soon come your way. No one said this hobby is going to be easy, we are reefers; and this why we wake up every morning to check our tanks and see if any changes happened over night.
Do the right thing brother, plan your next tank and move on.
