I have used cheap Chinese drill bits 10 Years now. They last between 50 and 100 holes in 8 mm glass for me.

Agreed. I have a 'cheap' dill bit I bought for 1" bulkheads, I bought it for around $5 to drill two holes and it worked just fine. I have also drilled several holes since then and the bit still looks good!

I've always used cheep diamond hole saws from Harbor Freight and they work fine.
