Tomini tang with ich! HELP!

Would it be ok to add the cupramine to the Paraguard in the tank as I have already dosed Paraguard. Or do I do a 100% water change or so?

Tough question... that's out of my department. It looks like this thread got moved to The Disease Forum, so you should get plenty of help there.

Alright. Chances are depending how the fish is doing it might not be a good idea to add copper to the quarantine till the fish is less stressed. So the paraguard will act as a temporary relief. And by then I’ll need to do a water change anyways!

[emoji106] Anything other tips you have that can help me in the future? I’ll put pictures of the fish on the forum if he is still alive!
Oh - there's a whole slew of info and advice that I'm sure could help you, but it's very easy to get overwhelmed and loose track of what's going on in the moment. ;-) So my best advice is simply to take things slow. Nothing good in this hobby happens fast. Browse around the forums here and read through the stickies of the Disease forum, if you are looking for some more info on problems you may encounter. I found that the first step to being able to keep healthy fish was to be able to recognize what an unhealthy fish looked like. The better I got (get...) at recognizing a problem, the sooner and more aptly I am able to treat it. The stickies - and many of the posts that aren't stickies - are a great place to see (and hopefully prevent) problems before they happen in your tank. And then, of course - don't be afraid to ask questions here on R2R. The entire community is here to help each other through this hobby/love of ours - not a one of us hasn't asked a "stupid question" yet. ;-)

Sorry; I missed that part of the question - and it's important!
NO - do not mix Paraguard and any form of copper. Paraguard is a reducing agent, so could (likely would) cause the copper to convert to a form that is highly toxic to the fish.
So you'll want to do a 100% water change. I suggest moving the fish into a bucket of new SW while you rinse out the QT tank, refill it, and then add the fish back into the clean QT. Then you can start to ramp up the copper slowly over the period of a day or two.

Sounds good. I’ve heard about that happening and causing the copper to separate killing peoples fish! I’m definitely going to wait a bit then to make sure the dish is a little stressed out and let the paraguard do its thing for a couple days before I tackle taking him out and switching to copper!

Yea one thing I noticed and I am starting to see the effect now and not taking things patiently. Starting to show when all my fish have signs of ich or even potentially velvet. I also lost a royal gramma lately. I have the equipment and time to quarantine so why not!

Also with the process of quarantining if a parasite/ disease does make it in the tank does this increase your chases of the fish fighting it off? Or just eradicate the parasite from the beginning hopefully keeping it out of the tank I The first place.

Ich and velvet aren't viruses - there is no anti-body to them that the fish develops. There may be something to the idea that they get used to the bother the parasites cause to some degree; sort of like how you can get used to a sore muscle and get on with your day. But that's not really scientific nor guaranteed. So with these parasites, you have to keep them out of the tank to keep your fish safe. Practically, that means proactively treating all fish (because the parasite is actually too small to see with the naked eye) with copper, CP, or TTM, and also keeping all corals, inverts and anything else in a fallow (fish-less) QT tank for 76 days before adding it to your DT. And throughout all of that, making sure to never cross-contaminate or get any aerosol transmission into your DT... It's no small thing to eradicate ich and keep it out of your tank - it's time consuming, more expensive, and takes careful dedication. Which is why most reefers practice some level of ich management rather than full ich eradication.

Sounds good. Thanks for the help I’m definitely going to start quarantining all my new fish, inverts ect for 6+ weeks. Sorry to say just found out the tang is dead. Definitely velvet from how quick it killed. [emoji22]

I would add that its important NOT to add Prime or Amquel to water that has copper in it. Those will cause copper to be 10x more toxic. Just a PSA.

Sorry that it didn't make it!

Glad I know that now! Thanks
