Tommi tang went south super fast

Thank you tons I appreciate you workin with me. I can setup a 5 gallon bucket and do that right now until I can get my full qt tank setup after class.
Sorry - just seeing this. Yes, the tang is moribund, close to death. A FW dip will probably kill it, but you need to do it in order to try and confirm if this fish has flukes, so you can treat your remaining fish. Catch the tang in a clean net (now sand or algae). Give it a 5 minute FW dip. Then settle the dip water and look for dead worms (a magnifying glass really helps).
If it isn’t flukes, it could be velvet- you won’t see that in a dip, but it can easily spread to your other fish. Copper is one treatment for that, but needs to be done in an isolation tank.

He just past away when I was about to move in over. I'm going to have to look later today to see what the heck happened.
Sorry to hear. Give it a FW dip anyway to look for flukes, that will help decide if you need to treat your other fish.

I'm sorry to hear that :( hopefully you'll find an answer.
Thank you for helping me. Some times things just go south. What's frustrating is that he was doing so well and all my other fish and coral are doing good. As well as my water quality is the best and most stable it's been

Thank you. I'm going to do some looking when I get back from my class.

Me too.

I bought a Tomini Tang from a large online retailer and the fish died all of a sudden around week 5.

My brain starts churning thinking they could have been captured with cyanide, or because they are kept in super low salinity to suppress infections.

It sucks.

Just to weigh in on your fish - 5 weeks out is too long for it to be osmotic stress from the dealer (that usually is an issue in the first 48 hours).

Cyanide typically kills within 30 to 40 days after capture. This species is one that are more often caught in barrier nets, so cyanide should be less of an issue for them.
