How about Eddie's PM? Those considered "rare" by Veron are not all that spectacular as stunreefer points out.
See my post on page 3.
Rare/collectible is a term that gets tossed around and replaced for one another.
For me, I have spent enough time with SPS to appreciate a rare corralite structure.....even if its a blan same ol color. ie Vernon
A couple of caveats.....what is considered rare, due to demand eventually will not be as.....unless it is finicky or troublesome in nature as the Tyree PM has been known to be.
What was desirable may not be anymore as our ability to color up and maintain those colors has increased over time.
Visual appeal or aethetics may not play the determining role in its desirablity. Some are just infamous like Eddies Purple monster which has been shrouded in scandel, loss, and confusion as to who has it...or not. In all honesty, its not a very spectacular piece and something like the Bali Tri Color blows it away......
remember a piece is probably "rare" for a reason. For instance how many large colonies of Tubs Horrida do you see?
One step away from these threads is WHY? what does it matter? is this a shopping list I always wonder, purely academic, money driven for that aspiring fragger who is going to cash in?
Really close to the rationale for choosing these pieces is what you value in the hobby.......Mark said it really well once...."Not only do I collect the corals, but the stories along with them."
The rarest ones to me are the ones that have been the hardest to obtain, see, or locate. They are the ones whom reefer I respect have been credited for, or have stories behind them I find interesting.......like Eddies PM, so I can in some way be a part of all that.
Which is why I am sooo not an encrusting SPS guy, but would want a piece of the Emma's Mind Trick, because Mark is a friend and the coral is named after a VERY adorable little girl I know!!!
Thats what is rare!!
Then please post some.
I know what most of these corals look like as most of them are in my tank![]()

What about Stylocoeniella? I can't say that I've seen much of these around, though I don't think they're extremely rare in the wild.
Here's a pick of mine
![]()
I really like these guys. The tiny yellow polyps stick out nicely against the purple body; kind of like a miniature Cyphastrea.
Ooo, forgot to add pink smoothie. I've never been able to get that one.
Mark - send me some from your tank and then I'll post pictures of them in MY tank![]()

That would be no fun as then people would see that I really do not know how to use a camera![]()

. I'm pretty sure if you saw my colony you would think the eddie's PM was pretty spectacular.:hammer:
Nice post however, I am going to have to disagree that its not a spectacular piece.. I'm pretty sure if you saw my colony you would think the eddie's PM was pretty spectacular.
Dave, you know the right people that have it. I just got a piece recently from "the source" :matrix:
