Inspired by the ‘top 5 most useless’ thread I would love to know your top 5 most reliable pieces of equipment you have purchased/used over the years..

I’ll start..

1. Eheim Jager heaters

Seem to go forever.

2. Eheim pump

Again perform like new regardless of age.

3. Anything made by Tunze

Just never ages!

I know this was my idea but that’s all I got lol hopefully I’ll learn from others what is wise to purchase :)

1)Eheim return pump - going 24/7 since 2006 only time it's been down is when I moved.
2)Tunze powerheads - I have worn out a few. I had an old I believe 6060 back when they were a lot bigger. I did get probably 8 years or so out of it. My nano streams are very old and still functioning and have a 6065 I believe in my dt from yesteryear too.
3)Original maxijet pumps - sadly they are all dead but those things lasted forever took a pounding and a half. I remember I used one to drain my mom's pond outside. They were great for powering things, pumping water and small tank powerheads. The cobalt ones are pretty good too.
4)Miracles aquarium - my tank shows its age a bit especially after a long distance move, but I got it in 2006 and I have no concerns about it holding water *knock on wood

I just got 4 off the top of my head. The jagger heaters do seem to last but I generally try and replace my heaters within 2 years or at least demote them from display tank to less essential tasks, like frag, qt ect.

LOL! you only listed 3.
Never had any luck with Eheim (pumps, feeders; especially their junk compact pumps)

My top 5 reliable equipment are:
1) Danner/Mag drive pumps.
2) Hydor powerhead
3) Milwaukee refractometer
4) Blackrock frag racks
5) JBJ ATO

Hmmm.....everything I have ever used has failed lol.....but if I had to pick something.........

1) Magdrive Pumps
2) Aqueon Pro heaters (I have used all the expensive brands.....these seem to last longer than most)
3) Hydor Koralia powerheads (again, I have used, and am using the expensive brands....these have been in and out of usage for years with very little cleaning)

That is about all I can come up with.......I have had issues with everything else at one point or another.

Too bad Blackrock isn't making frag racks anymore. Best frag racks I've ever used...

1. Aqueon pro heaters
2. Autotopoff.com ATO electronic switch
3. Jeabo wave pumps (I know, but mine have run without problems for years)
4. Panworld/blue line pressure rated return pumps. (Rock soild)
5. Mag drive pumps.

I forgot about mag drive pumps - I don't use them anymore but they are very reliable and double as heaters.
:D

I've got a Mag18 that I purchased around 1995. Used for a skimmer pump for years, stored for some time, used to pump water from my pool to the top of the water slide for a decade... I'm now using it to mix new salt water. And yeah... if I leave it running in a 70 gallon drum overnight, it'll be over 90f. :)

Picked up a pair of Rossmont Mover wave pumps a bit over a year ago. Rock solid, so far. I notice BRS doesn't carry them anymore... I know a year isn't really all that long, but I've had poor luck with wave pumps. For the price, these seem an excellent value.

..............

+1 This was mine after 4 years of use on a 125g I had and sold the complete system to a friend and he as I never had/have an issue with it.

Let’s see ....

1. Iwaki 40 pump @20 years (1988-2008). Retired.
2. World Class 180 aquarium @18 years before I sold it. May still be running.
3. MTC ProCal @18-20 years - don’t recall exactly when I bought it. Still running.
4. Various PanWorld pumps @10 years. Still running.
5. MTC HSA-1000 skimmer @10 years. Bought in 1997. Ran until 2008, then damaged in storage.

1) Eheim 1262
2) Askoll based pump
3) Avast ATO
4) Another notable mention for Black Rock Reef frag racks. Best frag rack I've ever used.
5) Mag Drive pumps

1) Tunze Osmolator
2) AI LED's (Hydra 52's)
3) Water Blaster Pump
4) Tunze Stream pumps
5) Bean Animal Overflow.....why oh why was I afraid to drill for so long?
