I have a small angel, and a cardinal fish who have ick. Im transfering them to a tank treated with copper, do i treat the water before or after adding them? Also how long? I have a heater, whats the best temp?

what im using to treat them

Is the hospital tank already set up? Do you only have a heater? I keep my QT around 78 which is the same temp as my DT. You're going to need to treat the fish for at minimum of 30 days. The 30 days only starts once you're at therapeutic level which with Copper Safe (chelated copper) is 1.5-2, take at least four days to get to that level, don't rush getting there unless absolutely needed. I would do a FW dip prior to adding them to the HT to give some immideate but temporary relief.

Also, leave the tank they came from fish free for 76 days to let the parasite starve. Get an ammonia badge for your quarantine/hospital tank (seachem makes it) to watch for ammonia and if it's anything but yellow do large water changes.l and re-dose.

Do NOT use prime or amquel or any ammonia detoxifier or other medication with copper. :)

Right now the salt is dissolving, in the setup process. Do i need to add copper a second time later? Or just one time and done

Okay thanks alot

Because of the angel, I would raise the Cu level slowly over a period of 4-5 days.

Unless you suspect velvet: Then roll the dice & get it up within 24 hrs.

Think it may be velvet, very small. I could of easily missed it. Its also only on the new black clown i have, my two clowns did alot of fighting could it just be knicks from that? Ill get pics as soon as i can

You're going to need to treat ALL of the fish who shared that same tank whether or not they're showing outward signs of infection or not.
