Interesting about high light. Mine always closed up any time i tried to increase light. But they grew pretty quick in low light

I think it also has to do with the tank, every coral in different tanks i have had acted different in all types of locations.

What kind of light meter do you use?

I just use a ati t-5 4 bulb 12 inches from top of tank. Rack is 6 inches from top of water.

Idk meter, simple system.

No meter means you were eyeballing your lighting changes. (i.e. not measuring) Easy to understand your corals' reaction.

A lux meter can be had for free and a decent handheld costs less than $15, delivered. Almost crazy NOT to use a meter these days.
