I used to add tiny bit of salt in my top off to compensate but again I realized it was not worth the efforts. By the time my weekly water change things are in check..

Ghl doser is great and have very solid controllability...I think it will work like a charm

Only way to know for sure on accuracy is to test against a known solution. Next time you order Trident reagents, order an extra calibration solution and run all the tests you compare against with the calibration solution.

Wouldn't a known standard be better? I assume the calibration fluid would be right, but...

I think if you want to compare accuracy of an equipment you should compare it to a 3rd party solution. This increase the integrity of the test..that's how you run proper experiments on test equipments whether its chemical, mechanical or electrical test equipments.
Otherwise might as well take that equipment reading as the standard.
My 2 cents.

Without knowing exactly what the calibration solution is it may not even work properly in other testing equipment (could be concentrated, could react differently to certain types of light that is only used during calibration etc).

It is used to calibrate the Trident. So it will work with other testers. Just like you can buy any refractometer calibration solution to calibrate any refractometer.

But if it makes you feel better, test them against other known solutions.

Maybe the bottle lies and is always -0.5DKH to get around some trident issue since you enter the expected values. That ends my tinfoil hat for the day .
