Hello I am wondering if I can put triggers in my acro/sps tanks. Triggers are my favorite fish but I would not be willing to part with my coral

Thanks,
Noah

Trigger species that are planktivores are a good option. Blue Throat, Crosshatch being the most well known.

I have a bluethroat and niger in my reef tank with softies, lps, sps, clams and shrimp with no issues. Those are probably the most readily available triggers that are reef safe and don't break the bank.

Triggers are one my favorites also; but there's a big difference in a pair of bluejaws vs a clown or a niger. I tried to go more tame with a pair of bluejaws, they are not my image of triggers. Bluejaws don't act or even swim like what I really like about triggers, so it all depends on why triggers are your favorite fish. A niger is an awesome trigger and some have good experiences with them in a reef.

Pic of my niger trigger. One of the first inhabitants in my tank. Great fish with no issues. As mentioned above, some seem to be okay but now all. I've seen different types in various tanks.

Following. I've been debating on a trigger so would you go Niger or blue throat ? If you had a mixed reef?

My niger was my favorite fish. Just happened to dissapear though 2 days ago. I suspect my cat because I rescaped the tank last night in hopes of getting some closure but no body anywhere.

Very strange, nigers aren't known jumpers, but any fish can jump. But nigers will wedge themselves into a crevice in a rock and you will absolutely never find him. I've actually taken rocks out of the tank and found my niger in the bottom of bucket flopping around, not knowing he was in the rock. Hopefully he'll reappear.

Good luck trying to find one I have a Nigerian trigger in my other tank but I'm looking to get something different in this one

BlueThroat Trigger would be the only one I'd trust. Mine's @4" and eats from my hand. Doesn't bother anyone else.

Thanks everyone for you input I was wondering if a pink tip or a sarrasum would be good???

The red tail (Sargassum) would be my choice if I was going with one. I would caution putting a pink tail in a reef. I think I've seen reef tanks with them before, but from what I remember they were more on the edge of not being reef safe.

I was doing some cleaning on my tank a few months ago and left the room, glass tops where off and when I came back in one of my Labs was sniffing and tripping out on something on the floor, she looked up at me and had something in her mouth, it was my NIGER he jumped out she grabbed it thinking it was a toy! I told her to drop it and tossed it back in the tank and it swam around like nothing happened. Now when I have the tops off I ask my wife or daughters to watch for jumpers while I step away. ;Watching

We currently have a red tail (sargasum)) in our mixed reef and in the past have had blue throat, pink tail and niger. Never any issues.
