Some normal things low which I can easily adjust with dosing, but one element very low was Sulfur, Triton suggests I dose for 9 days a total amount of 6433 ML ( 850 gallon system ) at $45.00 per 1000 ml, that's $315.00 in sulfate from Triton. Set point for Triton is 900mg/l and I'm at 822 mg/l the dummy light indicator is still green on the report. Does anyone agree with dosing that much sulphate at that kind of a cost. Will I really gain anything by doing this other than chasing a number ?

2nd Item is aluminum at 45 µg/l with there set point wanting to be 2 µg/l. suggesting ROWAphos to remove, will this work well ? Will it remove it ?

3rd Item is Molybdenum is high 46 µg/l with there set point being at 12 µg/l how can I lower the Mo? any suggestions as they say this will lead to Cyno, which I am battling right now.

4th Item Magnesium Low 1321 mg/l there set point is 1370 mg/l, they are suggesting the corrective dosage be carried out over 3 days. For the first 2 days the daily dosage should be 1609ml. On the last day please use 724.64ml.thats almost 4000ml of Magnesium, does that seem correct ?

Thanks for your advise in advance.

Sorry I cant answer your questions but I do have one.

Do you use marine pure in your system ?

I heard it can leach AL, I have it in mine and AL was zero on my triton test.

I was just curious. I run a mix of marine pure and maxspect bio spheres.
I had no AL in my ICP test but my SI was off the charts. At the time I had Siporax in my system. I think that was doing it, so I removed it. ( added bio spheres in place)
I seem to remember reading GFO will remove AL. I am def no expert. I do run a little GFO in my system.

just FYI... is you dose magnesium sulphate, you don't need to purchase anything else to bump your S up.
it's pretty cheap too ;)

Would you buy a powder and mix it? If you did, what would be the formula and dosing recommendations? Not sure I want to approach this without a scientific formula.

any dosing calculator will do.

i purchased from BRS, and usually use theirs ;)

So with my Mg at 1321 and set point 1370 thats raising the magnesium 49 mg/l but how much will it raise my S (Sulfate) I can't imagine it raises it more than 10 mq/l and I need to raise it 78 mg/l
so I would have to dose almost a 8 times as much so that would raise my magnesium way to high. Am I missing something here ?

Thank you, did you find any benefits after dosing, and have you ever had to dose it again ? Would you recommend this ?
I’ve only hadn’t to do it the once to correct a low reading, it worked perfectly, but read the thread as the salinity rise is marked, I removed tank water and let the ATO add RODI, to combat this, which inadvertently lowered my Ca and Mg levels, which I hadn’t thought about, so you need to keep an eye on all 3. I changed from MgCl to MgSO4 to dose so the sulphur drop wouldn’t happen again, but then decided to go to triton.

Thank you so much, this method will cost me only $15.00 vs Triton Sulfate at $315.00 !!!! Thats $300.00 savings.

So I need to dose 508 grams to raise my 850 gallons by 78 mg/l. Thinking of mixing 100 grams at a time in RO water and dosing. With 100 grams of Na2SO4how much RO water would you use and how many days would you spread out the 100 gram dose ?

I mixed 1kg in 10L RO and dosed it all over 20 days, I’m not sure I’m qualified to advise you any more than that sorry. Randy advised me as to safe levels and I followed those.

There is four times as much mass of sulfate compared to magnesium in magnesium sulfate. So a boost of 49 ppm magnesium will boost sulfate by about 200 ppm (sulfur by 65 ppm).

So Randy, if my magnesium is 49 low and my sulfate is 78 low. by just dosing magnesium sulfate, i would boost my sulfate too high then by about 122, so this is NOT an option correct?

If that 78 is S by ICP, then no, it will not overdose. Sulfate (SO4--) weighs a lot more. A 49 ppm mag boost is only 65 ppm S.

That said, don't try to hard to get "perfect" on either one. Nothing in the tank will care if these are slightly off.

Right value of Sulfur in the tank can promote better color, growth and helps the coral build it’s skeleton. But if you have anything else to dose then Triton Sulphate then use it. It’s expensive if you have a big tank. But you should send in another Triton-test to get a correct value after dosing.

2nd
ROWAphos is ironbased, if you use that to long you will have a build up of iron instead. If you use Tritons AL99 to remove phosfate then there will be a build up of Al. So to get balance I’ve read a recommendation to vary ROWAphos and AL99. Changing to ROWAphos won’t remove Al. You need to do waterchanges to remove is.

3rd
To get rid of high Mo the only way is to do waterchanges. If you are using Red Seas NoPox.. STOP. Dosing NoPox elevates Mo and contains Mo. Start using something else to remove No3 and Po4.

I belive this is correct. This is if you are dosing Tritons Magnesium. If not the dose with what you feel is best but check it with you’r own test.

Saw Also that your Iodine level is low. Hope you fixad that. Also your Si is high that needs to be lowered. If i remember correctly high Si triggers Cyano and algaes.

Hope this answers some of your questions. I myself have been using Triton-tests for 3 years now and send mine every other month.

I've never seen any data supporting that. Where did you see that claimed?

Sulfate varies substantially with salinity. Claiming an exact value is optimal would be akin to also claiming an exact salinity was clearly better. Do you think it is?

.

Silicate is used primarily by diatoms, not cyano or algae. If you do not have a diatom problem, there's no concern with elevated silicate.
