Triton ICP test back.

ROWAphos is ironbased, if you use that to long you will have a build up of iron instead. If you use Tritons AL99 to remove phosfate then there will be a build up of Al. So to get balance I’ve read a recommendation to vary ROWAphos and AL99. Changing to ROWAphos won’t remove Al. You need to do waterchanges to remove is.

That does not appear to be true. Rarely does anyone get detectable iron by ICP unless they are dosing it, whether they use GFO or not. GFO does not add enough to typically be detectable. I dosed iron and used GFO, and within a few days of dosing, none was detectable by ICP.

I've never seen any data supporting that. Where did you see that claimed?

Sulfate varies substantially with salinity. Claiming an exact value is optimal would be akin to also claiming an exact salinity was clearly better. Do you think it is?

Silicate is used primarily by diatoms, not cyano or algae. If you do not have a diatom problem, there's no concern with elevated silicate.

Triton themselves give that answer when you have a sulphur issue.

S
: We have detected a lack of sulphur.
A sulfate dosage may have the following advantages for your aquarium:
- Helps the coral to build it`s skeleton
- Can promote LPS / SPS coloring and growth
To restore the natural value, please refer to our recommended dosage.

Sorry about this I meant diatoms. I didn’t translate this correct.

Correct! Iron usually won’t show. But it could. But what he need is to use ROWAphos and maybe a waterchange or two to lower hos Al?

I don't believe Triton sulfate comment is correct. There's no evidence that I have seen for any of those claims relating to sulfate, and I do not advise people to focus on it.

If that 78 is S by ICP, then no, it will not overdose. Sulfate (SO4--) weighs a lot more. A 49 ppm mag boost is only 65 ppm S.

That said, don't try to hard to get "perfect" on either one. Nothing in the tank will care if these are slightly off.

Randy thank you, this saves a lot of chasing and dosing, I'll raise Mg by dosing the Magnesium salfate and it should get me right where I want to be..... Thanks a ton !!!!

You're welcome.

Note that if the salinity drifts from 35 to 34 ppt, sulfate will drop by a large fraction of what are dosing (26 ppm as S). :D

That's part of the reason why I say targeting a specific sulfate level is not going to make any difference.
