Trying to plan a NARC meeting...

Let us know what time you're working & maybe we could all work something out! : )

Well, I really hate to have you plan around me, but if it helps narrow down the possibilities...

Sept 1 is the day I'm not working, but with that being a holiday weekend, I better reserve it for family activities.
Sept 22 I am working 11pm-7am. I doubt I will feel like coming to dinner.
Sept 15 I am working 3pm-11pm, so a lunch meeting could work.
Sept 8 and 29 I work 7am until about 3-3:30pm. Those are the best for me, because I could just stay in Huntsville until the event.

I'm not sure how reef keepers feel about eating raw fish, but I (heart) Sushi (corner of Cecil Ashburn and Bailey Cove, or is it Four Mile Post and Carl T Jones) has a smallish room up front that closes off. I've only been there once, and that was with a group of 9 and there a few other tables in the room, so I'm guessing it seats 16-20.

But I'll eat pretty much anything.

For sushi, I definitely prefer Mikawa and Edo.

I hope we can get together at Jason and Tammy's or a local place somewhere.

As for other meeting places, we've met in Petco Decatur before. They were quite accomodating. We might be able to talk the one in Madison into hosting us.

NARC doesn't have monthly meetings anymore? No more meetings at members houses?

We stopped scheduling regular meetings awhile back, 8Ball, due to the lack of interest. The regulars were very busy with their daily life of raising kids, going to kids ball practices, etc. ;) It got to the point that only some people whom we don't even know showed up just for door prizes.

Now that we have some new people who seem to be interested in getting together with other reefers for fun, we may be able to restart regular meetings.

What kind of work to you do?

I would love to have another meeting. It's been a while and I'm sure there are several new members.

Ed cooks a mean butt!!

About me

What kind of work to you do?

Working as an International Space Station flight controller pays the bills. Before that, network security.

For fun, other than aquaria, I am most active in retrocomputing (think Apple II, Commodore 64, Amiga, NeXT, etc.), but also play with Linux, amateur and shortwave radio, scanners, and before kids killed the budget, I did some flying of single engine airplanes and gliders. My daughter (adopted from Kazakhstan, hence the nick) says I'm a nerd. I prefer to think of myself as a geek. Geeks have at least some social skills.

Russian, Uzbek and other Eastern European and Central Asian food is awesome! But, I think we're more likely to get a new LFS than one of those restaurants.

Kewl, I'm kinda geeky myself. Learned to program on a Radio Shack Color Computer. That led eventually to IBM S/36, S/38, & AS/400. Now I build DIY electronics like reef controllers, LED drivers, etc. Arduino C programming.

Also, in a previous life I had a commercial pilot's licence.

Do you guys want me to try to setup a web page or something where people can enter dates/times they are available and their zip code to make it a little easier to organize when and where to have this?

Sounds like several of us are a bit geeky... I'm an iOS developer with a pretty strong geek background. Does this make us "Reef Geeks"?

Mikawa is THE BEST. I pretty much eat no other Japanese food. They have an AMAZING private room, so I vote if we go to a restaurant I think we should go there!

...You have your pilot's license? You're officially my new favourite person. You do saltwater & you fly planes. At the meetup you'll have to talk to me about getting my pilot's license! I've been working in the airline industry for over 2 years now & I've REALLY been thinking about getting my license.

You probably need to talk to somebody else. I haven't flown in 40 years.

I'm excited! I've never been to a meeting before. I look forward to meeting everyone!

I with you H@rry. I am a geek, an aquarium nut, a pilot (private not commercial, idle for 5+ years), and a long list of things that I have dabbled in from guitars to watercolor. The list goes on for days, as does the pile of hobby supplies in my garage collecting dust.

As for the NARC meeting, I am in.

I am looking @ August 25th.Have not thought much on the food but that would be a good weekend for us.I hope alot of you are planning on going to the swap in Memphis. If you have never been it is a great exspierence. You can make a fun weekend out of it if you want to go down town and listen to music as we do every year.Let me know if this works for most everyone and we will start thinking food after that.Willie would love to have the company. We have just re-worked our driveway and road so there is alot more parking.
Jason

The 25th is good for me too so far. I can smoke another butt like the last meeting if ya'll like. But the way they have been working us I can not commit yet. I'll do my best to be off that day.
Markazdad.... Jason and Tammy are about 1hrs from RSA. They live in culllman (kinda) Right next to Smith Lake.

About this Geek gang you guys are starting..... I don't think I'll fit in. I am a pilot also if you include R/C airplanes and I also have 554 skydive jumps under my belt. My exp. with computers is knowing alot about locking them up. Now if you give me a piece of wood I can build anything. I'm just a dumb old firefighter with not a bunch of scense (I run into a building that everyone else is running out of). But I do seam to get along with just about everyone.

Would anyone in Huntsville like to carpool? Cullman's a way out there!

I don't mind being the one driving if you don't mind being squeezed into a Mini Cooper.
