Tswifty's 40g Rimless

Ready to begin Vodka dosing today. Had a funny conversation with the guy at the liquor store about dosing Vodka for a fish tank. He was actually really intrigued by it. LOL

glad to see its working.
Yeah, I'm happy with the results thus far. Especially since the improvements were from just the bacteria, and not the carbon source yet. I have seen a steady decline in my PO4 value as well. Even though I don't trust the accuracy of the number, it's still nice to see it declining. LOL. Hopefully that means the bacteria is beginning to outcompete the algae for available nutrients.

Also, picked up a small Sea Hare a few days ago to try and help out with the current algae situation. I'm thinking his name should be like Shrek or Booger. LOL

Looks like he's settled right in. I love the Meteor Shower...one of my favorite ATL pieces....

Yeah he's pretty cool to watch cruise around the tank. The Meteor Shower's growth has definitely slowed down since I added the 2nd pendant and moved to 14k lighting (from 20k). IMO It's a piece that definitely looks better and grows faster in lower lighting situations.

Wow time to dust off this thread... :)

I believe my last update, I hadn't "started" Vodka dosing yet. Well since then I now dose Vodka and Microbacter 7 everyday to my tank, and also dose Amino Acids twice per week... and have seen some pretty impressive results.

I also ditched my calcium reactor setup, and now use peristaltic dosing pumps to dose Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium to my tank daily. I had Keith (DEERE G) build a small platform to mount to the pumps on and keep everything organized as well. The addition of the dosing pumps has been great, and I no longer worry about my levels shifting at all.

Looks good, quite the change for the better. I have the same dosing pumps and love them.
One question, I thought Magnesium supplements needed to be shaken/stirred vigorously before dosing to get the the solution in suspension, what product are you using? Do you something that stirs it up before it doses?

Thank you. I'm using ESV Magnesium. I had similar concerns, which is why I do not use the BRS Magnesium. However, this premade solution has been working very well.

where did you get your dosing pumps? and how you control your levels by dosing as it now thanks
