My next reef will be no bigger tan a 55gallon tank. The cost of a reef is unbelievable.

You ain't kidding, that's why I like small tanks with nused equipment. Heck if it weren't for @Scurvy we'd still be in the dark. Lights are expensive. To light a 90 cube (3'x2'x2') I'm looking at the 36" Aquatic Life T5 retrofit with two 360s. $270 for the T5 fixture, plus bulbs and then $400 each for the 360s...

That's why I'm going softies they don't need nearly the light that sps and lps need. I'm currently running leds by fluval. I looking for more ducans.

I lost them to a Dino outbreak.

They don't require the same light since they can be found in deeper waters. All my my Euphyllia are at the top of the tank. I'm Nervous about putting sps in the tank. But I like looking at everybodys.

@sfin52 I'm trying my first ones now. @Scurvy had a hand in that. I've been sweet talking them every day and hoping they survive. I have stock biocube old school T5 lights.

T5s are great for coverage and growth... I just can't get away from the shimmer and color of LEDs. Hence why when I eventually set up my 90 cube, I'll go T5/LED hybrid. Coverage and growth of T5, color and shimmer from LED. I don't think you can beat that combo right now. It depends on how much PAR we can squeeze out of our A160s, we may or may not be looking for a 20" one bulb T5...

The Kessil with T5 are a very nice combo! I may well wind up back there myself when all's said and done.

Not so true. Well not at all. It's a myth. There's no correlation to sps lps and Sofites in terms of light requirements.

In each family there are specialists and generalists in terms of the zooox contained in them. So some of each family have low light animals and high light animals. Most appear to be generalist. I.e. , they take 100 par or 2000 par.

In your tank , try a cheap stylo or cyphasteria. THe cyphastera apperanly have more family in the low light ranges.

Stylos are cool... at least I like my blue stylo. Because it's bluuuuuueeee! I want a Milka too, those are pretty. Oh wait, I just remembered we painted the back blue. I hope it doesn't get washed out in all the blueness. We can stick it over near the overflow. It's still black.

Some montipora are lower light, and supposed to be beginner friendly. I seem to kill them but I can keep acros alive.

So, update for tonight. We got some goodies. Two expected, one unexpected. Yes that's right, unexpected goodies.

First expected goodie...
Jebao SW4.

I know I know... you're thinking I already have an SW2 and a SW4. Well ya see, the SW2 kinda quit working. We are returning it for a full refund, dont worry about that. Something messed up in the pump. The controller works fine until you plug the pump in and then it goes blank. I plugged the other pump into it and everything worked fine. So I got the multimeter out and checked the ohms. 500k on one circuit, 200k and 20k on the others. Hmm, none of that should cause a problem... oh well. Return for refund, and order another one, but upgrade to the 4 with 1000gph flow. So we now have 2000gph flow in the display with the 700gph(minus head pressure) return thru the sump. The back right SW is pointed diagonally across the tank, and the mid left SW is pointed across the top of the rocks. Both are on random mode, full power and slow interval. Surface is thoroughly agitated...

(They look like the are pointing right at each other but the right one is aimed in front of the left, and the left is kinda aimed at the right one but lower.)

Prodibio BioClean

It's got 3 vials of BioDigest which is "A concentrated mix of several natural, nitifying and denitrifying strains of living bacteria, for an efficient biological cleaning of the aquarium," and 3 vials of Bioptim in which is, "a carbon source and micronutrients which speeds up the bacterial purifying activity."
Dirrections say for 30-50 gallons, to add one of each vials to the aquarium every 15 days, and turn off the skimmer for an hour. We're not going to add this just yet, but wait until the 1st so we can keep track of the 1st and 15th...

Unexpected surprise...

Right, so... what is it. Well, it's a 3D printed controller holder thingy... Yep, @Katrina71 sent it. Sneaky sneaky, let her have your address to send some door knobs and stuff starts appearing. She's gonna find some acans sitting on her doorstep one day. Well, it didn't exactly fit the Jebao controller it was intended for, but it did fit this.

I hadn't told anyone about this yet. It's left over from the 75 and the sticky on the Velcro has long been, not sticky. 3D printed controller holder thingy to the rescue! It's sharing a bucket with the 14's ATO for now. They are close enough right now that everything reaches. So close I cant wait for the 35 to finish cycling so I can move the 14 out of the way. I can't see the right side of my pretty new tank.
