Turtle's Deep Blue Sea

Golden dwarf moray. He's living in that 10g right now with his buddy the six line wrasse and Fedora, the urchin. As soon as we get this 35 cycled he's going in to claim his caves, plural. They keep several they move between. Flasher wrasse goes in next when I know the tank can handle the eel's bioload. Eel is tough, wrasse isn't so much.

Pretty colors for today.

Wait, how did the nitrates go from 20 to 160 over night? Let's get the Red Sea kits out and just test everything.

Ca Alk Mg and SG are a bit low but ballanced, we can fix all that by adding a bit more salt. NO3 and PO4 are about where I expected them. NH3 is down to 0. NO2 is still 2.0ppm by the API test, dont have another way of checking it but I'm fairly certain it's at least halfway accurate. I'm not really concerned with NO2 (it's not toxic in saltwater) as I am the ability to get rid of NH3. I'm thinking tomorrow with the BioDigest we move Maui over to let him establish his home.

This is all that is left of the red macro algae from my 10g refugium. It was almost a tank full of pretty red algae, but Fedora ate it all.

I moved her/him/it over to the 14 that's been growing this GHA for a while. It's not taking over but just creeping up the bottom of that rock. Fedora will take care of it in no time. Then when we hit the tank uglies in the 35 Fedora will be right there to tackle it. After that I'll either figure out a way to use some refugium algae to feed it or just use nori on a clip...

Well, we did it. The BioDigest went in late last night with...

Maui has a new home. He's been hiding a lot, but he was just snatched out of his old home and put in a strange new place with tons of caves to explore. Ammonia is still 0ppm, twelve hours later.

We moved over the rest of the macros too. These are some type of halimeda algae. It's calcareous, so its not something thats really appetizing. It looks pretty tho.

We also added just a little bit of rock from the refugium that was originally from the 75, so it's about 8 months wet and had a few pods in it.

Oh and the refugium... well, it's empty now. It served it's purpose. It kept Maui, Fedora and the evil six line alive until I had another place to put them. Back to being a QT tank.

Thanks guys... I want to move eveything over right now, but I'm gong to ignore that urge. Now that I can keep ammonia at 0, Maui will help complete the cycle. There's a coral up at the LFS I have been wanting... the only soft coral that's ever caught my attention. I knew I was a stick head before I got my first saltwater tank. We have to go trade two fish in at the LFS today, nobody in the local club had much interest, might pick it up and it'll go in here soon.

Welcome to the Deep Blue Sea @Be102... please post pictures when you get your eel. Cover your tank too! At least until your eel feels safe and at home. If you have any questions feel free to ask. We don't mind getting side tracked here. We all have ADD, some are ADHD...

QT has been rough on my wrasse. He's still healthy looking, but this is about all he does every day.

Breathing normal, good appetite, no signs of parasites. He looks at me when I walk by the tank, but is no longer scared of me and just lays there. Im torn on leaving him in here too lay around all day, or risk putting him in the 35 too soon.

My fish even in dt take a couple of weeks to a month to adjust. Took my fox face about 2 months. Still freaks out when I walk up to the tank and it's been 2 1/2 years. I don't understand why its scared of the Food god. Goodness sake if they splash going after food they dive for the rocks scared out of their little minds.

I wrote a thread last night but it didnt get much attention, what do you use as a lid on your tank? I have a glass lid I never use anymore cause of just it being a pain in the neck and gets dirty / just doesn't work out as well. I also created two screen lids that seem alright but I am now concerned if I add an eel. I will be updating my system to include my sump / overflow and stuff so for the time being I think I'll just take my crappy HOB skimmer off now and Just try to get the lid to stay shut.

I need more pictures from you!! SO cute

Can’t wait, need some excitement since my eel shipment got pushed back to Tuesday :/
