We highly suspect my golden dwarf moray as the cause of my fish disappearances. I've lost over $200 in nano fish from my Deep Blue Sea in the last month.

So, Maui(the eel) gets his own tank! We have had this Innovative Marine 14 gallon peninsula running for almost a year, and have neglected it over the past few months. It needed a good cleaning. So, I removed all the rocks and scrubbed them clean. Removed the sand. Then scrubbed the glass and started over.

Here's the tank how it sits.

Nice! Everyone needs multiple build threads!

Yep, I think he developed expensive taste. Well done robin. Maui was eating well. Hope you don’t have a hard time getting him to eat frozen after big blue food. ;)

Got him in the tank late last night. I was able to pull him out of his rock and get him in a tub with tank water so I could net him. He ended up slithering out of the net past my hand tail first and into my firewood holder next to the fireplace. So I had to re-net him, wash him off in the tub and then get him in the Menagerie. He found a hiding spot under a rock and has been there since. I did get pictures of his tank mates last night, I doubt they will be the edible kind.

How’s the Maui settling in. And how is he after hitting the fire wood

Hows Maui doing? Also curious :D

I'm at a training class for work but I'll be home in a few hours. Maui was doing fine this morning, altho he looks like he might have scraped the side of his face on the firewood. I almost got a picture but he hates the flashlight and hid before I could hit the button.

Wow, I've missed a lot! I miss an email and then my brain flakes and I miss weeks of updates. I'm half laughing at the image of you digging through a pile of firewood for your moray eel.... Hopefully no more starnge disapperances.

It was hilarious... I was panicking and laughing at myself at the same time. He was slithering all over the place, got out of the firewood carrier and onto the hardwood floor. I tried scooping him up in the net at least five times before I actually got him. Every time he saw the net he'd back up and slip thru my hand... the whole time he's covered in slime, dirt and bark, flailing about like a fire hose with nobody hanging on to it.

Maui is still in hiding, but I promise he's just fine and will come out to explore after he gets over the stress from all that craziness. I can just barely see his head under this rock.

Here's how we set up the tank. Not completely happy with it, but I couldn't see thru the water and it's stable... I might tweak it later, right now I'm just leaving everything alone and letting Maui relax.

Edited that last post with the actual picture of the tank... because y'all can't actually see into my den from all the way over yonder.

Maui is getting used to his new home... he's probably wondering where all the expensive fish are to eat. I tried to see if he was hungry last night with some squid scent in the water, but I didn't get a reaction so I'll try again in a few days. He should be getting hungry by next week. He's a good eater, so I'm not concerned about a hunger strike. He did eat a bunch of fish before he got moved...

Excuse the fuzzy glass. The urchin keeps everything clean except the corners and the bottom. He can't fit in there to eat the algae.

The shrimp says, "come at me bro"

you don't have a lid on the new eel tank?! He might go for another stroll amongst the timber!

I'm aware of that risk, but the only problem I've ever had with one of these eels jumping overboard was in a QT setup with nothing but PVC for shelter. I've found that in a reef setup, they'd rather hide under a pile of rock than risk poking out too far to make it out the tank.
