This is true and why I asked about the "true" label. Ill get a pic of both side by side in the next few days...

I know lots of people have viewed this thread. Has anyone seen this piece before. I'm trying to identify it. My friend, Benny even thought it was some type of favia.

I have not seen it before, all I know is I want a piece of it.

it is one of the best looking pieces in frank's tank. dead serious!

i only suggested favia because to me it looks like the eyes are separated similar to a favia. perhaps the same type of favia as ppe/event horizon? it could very well be a chalice, though. have to keep an eye on it when it gets a bit bigger...

I know it is not the common colors, but have you considered acan rotundoflora?

When I got it, it was just a bit bigger than a sesame seed. I didn't even know what it was. It's been growing slow for the first 4-5 months. Now it finally gained some speed and showed some obvious growth in these recent couple months. I'm also interested to see how it looks when it gets bigger.

could be. But rotundoflora has bigger mouth/eye, and this piece has very small eyes.

I need Benny to come in and take another better shot with his new 50D and 60mm macro. so peopel might see it better.

i was just going to suggest getting a macro closeup. i will have to stop by this weekend sometime.

IME rotundo grown in aquariums has much smaller eyes than that grown in the ocean.

yes, but one of the characteristics of rotundoflora is non-uniform irregular corallites. to me this piece looks like the eyes are growing in similar/uniform shapes, but again this will be easier to tell when it gets bigger.
