Two more Lyretail Anthias from LA

I've got 5 Lyretails from LA that have been in quarantine since Tuesday 10/23. They're in with Prazipro now. Moving to Copper Power on Monday. I've been having a heck of a time keeping ammonia at bay. 90% water changes every 36-48 hours. I'm no expert with anthias or quarantine... these are my first anthias and first Q. They eat frozen mysis with Selcon like VELOCIRAPTORS. Seriously. Don't put your hand in the tank. The next stock in line is a purple tang... so maybe they'll whip him into shape.

Good luck.

Likely shipping stress. Just keep lights off and the least stressful environment as possible.

Some fish just don't ship well.

Agree. A video of the behavior would help us rule out something more sinister, however.

Thanks all, I was thinking video would be good, so here it is!

Nothing stands out in that video. Hopefully after a couple of days settling in the fish will be alright.

The fact it is eating already is a major plus. Anthias need fed frequently, so the key to them in QT and not causing an ammonia spike is multiple very small feedings. Just try not to overdo it, it's hard I know!

When I feed anthias in quarantine or TTM I take frozen mysis or brine and literally shave it with a knife to turn 1 cube into 6-8 feedings. I try to feed them 3-5 times a day but keep it very light. Powerheads seem to be helpful for enticing anthias to eat in my experience.

With that being said, I've probably had 15 anthias of varying species make it through QT (with about a 90%+ survival rate) and into the display only to die off one by one over 3 to 6 months. Only my Borbonius has been successful long term and he's right at 2 years.

Why throw them into chemicals infested water after they arrived from across the globe? I never had any success with these chemicals..... I have a QT tank for new fish to get them to eat and faten up for a month of so ... if they don’t develop any visible disease they go into DT after... I think prophylactic treatment is more harmful than anything else ... just my 5 cent

I have 5 in quarantine as well, copper power at theroputic levels, also from Live Aquaria. Very shy at first as you describe. Frozen misis is definitely their favorite. Mine also go nuts for hikari marine s pellets. Nutrient dense, so not too much in QT

Due to the condition we have been receiving fish in lately it's definitely necessary IME, IMO. It's obviously a controversial topic.

QT is quite technical. Requires attention to detail with meds. Also the type of fish you desire to keep can also determine at what level of prophylactic treatment is necessary.

@don_chuwish you are doing a great job buddy! Keep up the good work.

Well... I caved. 5 Anthias did GREAT with freshwater bath & 7 days of Prazi. They were eating well, out and about, etc. On the 3rd day of Copper Power (approx 1.25ppm), all of them started breathing heavy and swimming on their sides, eating slowed... nothing good. The ammonia was creeping up (I battled ammonia the entire time they were in Q) and, so, I put them through a display tank water rinse and released them in the display. 2 have died. There was one already in the tank. So, we have 4 right now.
