Hi all,

‘’After 20 years away from the hobby, we are happy to have a new Reefer250. Two weeks and I found R2R looking for a solution to the famous gurgling overflow problem. Read the threads and tried a few things to fix it. After many hours and taking the valve apart several times, I decided the answer had to be install a gate valve. Bought the parts and adapters from metric to standard. Installed the gate valve and still no joy. Completely closed the gate valve and still no joy. Gurgling continued. What now? I stuck my hand in the sump and the water was flowing down the emergency overflow. I installed the overflow and emergency overflow reversed. Lesson one is RTFM. Looking forward to more lessons and learning from you all.

Welcome to Reef2Reef! Good luck with your plumbing! It's always been one of my weak points, but I go by the KISS method and it hasn't failed me yet. I can live with a little noise, and sponges on the ends of the overflow pipes to the sump really help dampen the sound from mine. Also make a great prefilter, so we rinse them daily.

I thought about that solution myself. I decided too much risk the sponge would get sucked down the pipe and block everything. I’ve done enough plumbing around the house to be dangerous, not a pro by any means. In this case, it became a challenge. Too bad I didn’t check the basics first. Funny that I never read in any discussion to check this. there are hundreds of threads on this noise for Red Sea. BTW, never got any response on my support ticket with RS. That was disappointing Customer Service. Live and learn.
